This single loon has been the Lamma Celebrity of the Week, attracting bird photographers with professional equipment to the shores, ferry pier, even renting boats to get closer. Only spotted every 4 years or so in HK, it created a social media storm not just in the birdwatching community. I've never seen that many photos, videos, stories and comments about a single bird and the commotion it caused for DAYS all round YSW Harbour. Here's one from Guy Miller who watched it all from a distance being amused and bewildered at the same time as he's usually almost the only serious birdographer around our shores:

"News of the rare red-throated loon got around fast as Lamma was invaded by hordes of 'loonies' this morning, much to the puzzlement of local residents. The bird appeared oblivious to all the fuss."
