Hmmmm........ very close to "Dino's Diner" though - the old name of Y2K when Eric had it.

Another good name or slogan might be "Every time a good time!", or is that already taken?

Any more new name suggestions? Maybe they'll listen, as Dina & Esther will probably read this topic. I've warned them personally that we'll be talking about them behind their back (but in a public forum).

But right now, I'm eagerly waiting for Lamma-Por to bring home her own choice of takeaway from The Full Monty. Just a few more minutes...

Y2K used to be called just "Dino's" didn't it? Anyway, that was ages ago.

I tried the mushroom tortellini with spinach and cream sauce last night - very tasty. I will certainly be going back!

Ah, so that's what was inside the tortellinis yesterday evening. I suspected it, but wasn't completely sure...

I liked them a lot, but Lamma-Por went more for the Chinese vegetables mixed in with the tortellini. Great, creamy sauce! You can get the takeaways with an entire fresh baguette instead of rice. The dishes are big enough for two people, even for two big people.

We're giving Dina & Esther so much free publicity, even reviewing their menu choices every day! Maybe they should post their daily menus in these forums!

Obviously, Dina & Esther and/or their families are reading this forum...

I just saw a poster on Back Street in Sha Po Old Village that advertised the menu of Dina's Diner! So this is the official new name of the place! I've just updated this forum topic's title.

Everytimeagoodtime, you should really get a free takeaway for coming up with this new name in the first place! Identify yourself to Dina one of these days and tell her that Lamma-Gung sent you and he thinks that you deserve a free takeaway!

Let us know how it goes and if you're successful. I can't give you any guarantee, though, that Dina won't hit you over the head instead with that big spoon used to fill the styrofoam boxes...

Zippy, the menu listed "beef and pumpkin" as one of the dinner choices yesterday! They seem to have read and fulfilled your request.

So what other dishes would readers like to be able to take away from Dina's Diner?

I've got a reply from Eric Rixon, the former proprietor of Dino's:

"The registered name (of the Company and Business) was "Dino's Video Diner" but it was known locally as just "Dino's". The signs on the walls and menus were also simply "Dino's".

"We inherited the name from Chris Knox, co-owner of what was then "The Waterfront". Chris was the one who converted the old Chinese fast-food place into his idea of a Thai beach bar. But he failed to open the place due to overwhelming difficulties in getting the various licenses and authorisations.

"Kitty and I took it on in the belief that we could overcome the bureaucracy. It was just easier to keep the existing name, rather than go through all the additional paperwork and expenses to change it.

"When we eventually converted the upstairs storeroom into a bar, we called it "The Lighthouse" and had various murals (painted on the walls by Malcolm Golding) to reflect the name.

"I have pictures somewhere..."

It's kind of ironic that the place has returned to being a Chinese fast-food place...
