After a very long wait, they finally seem to be getting serious about the opening.

Talking to one of the owners recently, a Chinese property developper, he was just buying cutlery wholesale. The other days several ladies were unwrapping and polishing nice lounge chairs outside the Waterfront. But no there are no door and windows yet and a lot of construction works needs to be completed till reopening. Looks like it'll be really nice, with a great seaview terrace.

Anybody heard a provisional date for the opening?

Soft opening was on Sunday, Nov 14.

That was nine days ago and nobody has posted about it yet?

I caught Bob Davis promoting the new place with his former-Waterfront T-shirt, a real antique (the T-shirt, not Bob!), on Main Street, pointing the way to the new place to passersby.

Any body tried the food yet? How's the atmosphere and crowd? Opinions, please!

It was pretty busy when we visited and the Italian-stye food was tasty and reasonably priced. Could this become the new hot spot for the in-crowd of YSW?

I like that life-size model of Mike Duggan.

I think he was talking about Lamma as a whole rather than just the Waterfront.

I think you're right!

Great quote, Granola, it really applies very well to all of Lamma!

But who's "they"?
Did you mean the developers "beautifying" YSW, for example by putting a cute little pavilion on the rocky shore outside the typhoon shelter?

Closed for renovation for several days already..

No reopening day announced. The workmen seem to be finishing the upper floors as well, so it might take quite a while...

A new canopy according to sources close to the heart of the operation.

Mrs Meldrew & I visited the Waterfront on Sat evening, I have only one word to describe the experience, CRAP.
The menu was limited if you didn't like mincemeat, I ended up going for the burger, which came with either chips OR salad, the chips that I had, some must have been left in the kitchen for hours before ending up on my plate stone cold and rock hard, and from what I saw around me others did not enjoy the cullinary experience either.

Well what do you expect, you employ waitresses / chefs, that have been given the boot from other eating establishments for being so useless and they end up doing the same crappy food and the same sloppy service that they gave in their previous places of employment.
We shall not be returning to the Waterfront for eating, unless they come up with a better and more varied menu, instead of copying all the same old shite you can get in any of the restaurants, that is put on offer for the residents of this fair isle.

Ah, but imagine how wrong they could go with less conventional fare.

Well, just goes to show.................., there really is no such thing as equality..........., if I'd called him that, we would have been moved to Fc & I would've got a yellow card.

Particularly as I've only been to Yorkshire twice in my whole life.

They've just reopened after a 2.5-month closure for further renovations.

New, nicely designed menu. Here's a photo of the welcome message which speaks for itself, I think. The choices are still very limited to just a few standard "coffee shop" dishes. 2 Chinese dishes: Waterfront Fried Rice or Chinese Fried Rice. But two pages of exotic drinks at $40 a pop.

There was a really very "cool breeze" as the welcome message says. We enjoyed their brunch before noon last Saturday. We were the only guests and the wife of the owner, Hung-kee, was cooking.

Fine, good-value "Waterfront Morning Eye-opener" at $50 (+10%), including big cervelat sausage, ham & bacon, 2 eggs, beans, mushrooms, toast, big juice and coffee refill, cheaper than in almost all other competing places.

Ate at the waterfornt the other night and had mixed feelings.

The service was rubbish, though it was pretty busy. After ten minutes of sitting looking at our closed menus and no sign of anyone coming to take our order, I had to get up and go to the bar to order. It then took over 45 mins for the food to arrive (2 simple dishes).

Once the food did appear though it was pretty good, if a little bland (I think more garlic would have made all the dfference, but then people's tastes vary). The surroundings are pleasant and the prices are reasonable.

I will go back again once, but if the service hasn't improved I'll forget about it, which would be a shame as the menu is also quite good. I know it's not McDs, but I just don't want to waste an hour waiting to get some grub.
