Another Waterfront Quiz Night, but in a new format!

The Quizmaster, Simon Kay, writes:
"Quiz Night returns to the Waterfront next Wednesday 11th May! Book tables on 2982-1168.

No wipeout round - new format (which is making me a bit anxious to be honest)!"

I think hawker patrol might soon cook their goose unless they're in with the local clans who can use public space for selling food without harassment. Small herds of blinkered FEHD staff occasional waddle out of the village, even up to the cold drinks seller halfway to SKW if the weather is fine.

This stand looks very mobile and can probably be dismantled and moved away in seconds, after a little advance warning phone call...

After the hawker patrol has waddled by they might be back in business within minutes... and that chicken looks just delicious, a welcome relief from the usual fish balls... but only open on Sunday afternoons...

Oh I do resent the way the govt puts so much effort into enforcing stopping these such things. Of course, none of us want to get food poisoning but surely we can see if food is nicely presented and looks clean etc? As this does in this pic, btw!

It should be up to us if we choose to eat from a stall or not. Years ago I regularly ate rice off barrows, people used to buy food sold in barrows outside the cinema (ok, that was a bit noisy to listen to the chomping of pigs ears and chicken in the exciting parts).

I can honestly say that I have never had any problems eating from street stalls here or in many different countries. Bring back the hawkers! Get rid of the hawker patrols!

Sorry, this is a bit of a vent. I must have missed lunch.

Another Taipeng Spice popup this Sunday. Jane the Gardener writes:

"By popular demand, Taipeng Spice will be back at the Tapas bar [Spanish place opposite Jing Jing] this Sunday (July 3) with a selection of home-made traditional spicy and mild vegan dishes from South India. Takeaway or eat-in, any time from 5.30pm onwards.

Favourites include Garlic Curry a pungent mix of coconut crème, tamarind, , turmeric, mustard seed, chilli and urud dhal (white lentils) plus fresh curry leaves.

Red Rasam is the ideal hot weather tonic. This original combination of tomato, lentils, tamarind, black pepper and a constellation of freshly ground spices is topped with fresh coriander leaves.

Everybody loves tender Okra, lifted out of the ordinary with the help of fresh coconut and fragrant spices.

Call them Eggplant, Aubergine or Baingan, they are simply delicious stuffed with toasted peanuts and almost 20 spices all carefully balanced for maximum impact.

Black tea transforms humble Chickpeas with the help of fresh ginger, lime juice and coriander leaves plus selected spices to tempt the appetite in hot weather.

Cabbage is unrecognisable when finely shredded and gently stewed with turmeric and fresh curry leaves plus mild but fragrant spices.

Freshly cooked extra-long grain Basmati Rice is available.
All these recipes are prepared without dairy products or wheat.
Ask about our heavenly Indian-inspired puddings."

LaLa mama's has put up a huge and very expensive poster at the YSW Ferry Pier gate. Great location, targeted directly at Lamma commuters coming back from town; plus arriving tourists, who still have a very hard time finding their location:
