The Sleeves are coming to The Island Bar!

Details below on next page...

P.S. The 3 symbol above mean:
Lamma (obviously, see the Chin. name for Lamma).
Island Bar (Palm in their logo)
Music (an ancient Russian rune for Music. Google it!)

Submitted by Lamma Artist, Abigail Wong, who's been featured numerous times in Lamma Artwork of the Week on the home page.

This will happen outside the Szechuan rest. right to the left of Lamma Grill, Lung Kong.
I love Abigail's work, so I *might* give her a chance to paint half my face... 8)

THE SLEEVES
BY HALVES

Original Live Music from 8.30pm
Free entry, please just drink a lot at the bar !

THE SLEEVES

Based in Hong Kong but with all four band members originally from England, The Sleeves first emerged from a seedy Mongkok rehearsal room in 2007 with their “dirty power chords backed by frenetic drums and with infectious pop melodies”. They've performed at regional festivals including Clockenflap (2011 & 2012) and Spring Scream (Taiwan, 2012), supported Gary Numan, UNKLE and Peaches (Macau, 2010) but have spent the past couple of years procreating and writing new material for the follow up to their 2011 ‘Arcade Rock’ debut album.

Thursday Song (promo video):

Mirror (promo video):

BY HALVES

No musical slouches despite their name, By Halves, (a.k.a. the band formerly known as Helium) serve up an eclectic blend of crunchy electro-acoustic guitar riffs, soulful funky keys and original songwriting flair, creating a groovy, uplifting sound. You won't be able to sit still.

My first attempt at some smartphone night photos of Good Luck Thai, opened a few days ago just behind The Island Bar.

It's the first Lan Kwai Fong restaurant ever to open a branch on Lamma, to my knowledge. Even the heavy hardcover menu with professional, glossy photography and design comes from their LKF main branch. Run by former Waterfront manager Johnny, this might turn into a very popular restaurant pretty soon.

More about the very impressive food soon...

The just opened new Spanish restaurant opposite Jing Jing is "Closed due to flooding" since yesterday. Very eager to try it!

...and LaLa mama has made a return to Lamma, but just on Sat and Sun, in the location of the former Island Gym in Sha Po Old Village. Eager to try!

...and nearby Lamma Chimneys inside Fa Fa House opens now only on weekends.
More about Fa Fa House, open Friday-Monday, and their tea sets and the "Prettiest Coffee on Lamma" coming soon...

FINALLY! Another Western bread shop opening this Sat!

The Chinese bakery on Back Street, the baguettes in the Lamma Gourmet and the "exclusively priced" organic breads in Just Green are all fine, but so many of us are looking forward to fresh croissants and many other fresh breads!

The location is the former Pinoy Store just opposite Just Green, I guess, see map below.

I was a bit dissappointed with Good Luck Thai. Food was average but prices high. Also avoid the "Lime Soda" which is priced at $10 more than the "soda water" All you get for the extra are tired looking slices of limes floating in the soda water.

Tried the new Lala cafe as well. Nice atmosphere and all day breakfast was good although they were a bit mean with the bread.

Good news about the bakery. Hope they have the sense to open early for the commuter traffic...they could then sell coffee as well. There's a bit of competition for the morning breakfasts, but if the bread is exceptional they can steal all the business :) competition is good!

Caroline of Lamma Grill:

"Lamma Grill is holding 2 fundraisers for Sue [Shearman's cancer treatment]!

Friday 12th December is DJ night with Mike Robinson. No cover charge for this, but I will make jelly shots to sell with all funds going into the bucket and $10 for every standard drink sold will also be donated.

Thursday 18th December we have 3 bands booked to play.
Cover charge of $100 and $10 for every standard drink sold will be donated.
Harry Harrison is donating a picture to be auctioned. Thanks, Harry!

Posters are being made for both and once I have these I will post on FB and around the village.

Hope to see you all at both events. Thanks everyone."

One more events to support Sue Shearman's current cancer treatment. No medical insurance, like so many of us...

Adam writes:

"Here we go. We're gearing up to play our longest-ever set, together with a more chilled version of 88s' set than anyone has probably heard before (to ensure the doors of the Grill don't shatter).

So come one, come all, we're hoping this will be the Grill's biggest ever night.
Share / re-post, tell your mates, spread the word and see ya on Thursday!!"

DJ Night with DJ HOMEI tonight in the Lamma Grill!

Here are some very suitable screen shots from his own "animation promo reel", featuring an animated version of himself as DJ?

This brings back so many memories of my own ancient, humble beginnings as a 3D computer animator...

Will Lamma Grill look like this tonight?

Book signing this Friday.

As I got a signed copy of this book for my recent birthday (see below), I'm way ahead.
Get your own signed copy this Friday evening!

The early reviews on the back cover are interesting, some familiar names there...

A Lamma-zine book review will be coming up, but it might take me quite some time to read this 436-page paperback, with a stack full of mostly unread books...

Somebody wants to volunteer to do a book review for the Lamma-zine? ;-)
