New restaurant in progress, opening around Mid-Autumn festival or early Oct!

Bombay Bar & Restaurant in the former Thai Plus premises on Back Street.

Sorry to see the larger, cozy Thai Plus go, under renovation now. We liked the owner quite a lot and their great food. Best Tom Yung Goong and crab cakes on the Island!
But it was just too low-key, almost never promoting itself in any way.
Is there really space for THREE Thai restaurants in Yung Shue Wan? Survivors Thai Thai in Tai Yuen and Good Luck Thai (behind the Public Toilet) seem to be doing OK for now.

Thai Plus's menu might survive, moving it to the neighbouring tiny Thai takeaway which will open all week and let you dine in on a few tables, a la Thai Thai in Tai Yuen Village, we assume. Got to talk to the owner soon.

According to the manager of Best Kebab last night (see photo above), Bombay will be their 2nd place and will focus on Indian curries and other Indian food by the same chef currently cooking all the Indian specials in Best Kebab.

There's some stiff and well-established Indian-food competition in YSW - Beer Garden and especially the absolutely excellent Waterfront Indian food. I'm "addicted" to their famous lunch Thalis (sporting my Thali photos on their lunch tabletops).
So it'll be a tough competition, but Lamma-Por and I wish them all the best! We hope to be at the opening party and left my contact details, on their request.

They wanted to do an Italian restaurant at first, but the confirmed cook pulled out recently.
Maybe the current manager - ex-Isola in IFC - might start cooking again himself as he has the experience!? Real Italian (most popular foreign cuisine in Switzerland) that would be something we'd line up for!

Thai Thai is in Sha Po before you get to Brothers not in Tai Yuen. (Which starts around the recycling bins just after Brothers). Just pointing that out in case people go looking for it in Tai Yuen!

Although a new restaurant/bar is a great addition (hopefully) we could do with something other than another Indian, which like you say, is already well provided for. Vietnamese or Mexican would be my choice!

Thanks for the correction. Mea culpa.

The problem for most restaurants seems to be to get staff to travel out here to Lamma from wherever their family lives now.
Lots of good chefs and staff have left over the years because of the long commute, despite high salaries offered, sometimes within just a few weeks.

Having to provide low-cost quarters in high-rent YSW for single staff seems to be common.

Blue Goose Tavern closed down in Wanchai and has taken over Prime Bar & Restaurant!

People seem to love their burgers and I got massive feedback on Facebook for my "John Wayne Burger" picture:

More Wicked Wednesday events this month.

They also mention some upcoming Mystery Night, Treasure Hunt events, and hopefully more Comedy Nights (the comedians and the venue did it for free).

I'd love to attend many of these Wicked Wednesdays, but they all end after the last ferry to Pak Kok (9:10pm), so I'd have to walk or bike home.
That's only a problem on a rainy, miserable night like yesterday. I walked Pak Kok - YSW yesterday in a tropical downpour... no fun... still drying now...

Lamma Jazz Quartet, one of only very few remaining band playing on Lamma semi-regularly, it seems?

But there are more and more bands performing on Power Station Beach during Lamma Fun Day and other festivals, fortunately.

Another Dickstock festival is rumoured next Jan, but no confirmation.

That has been going for years lamma Gung! Although in the past it had to be a Standard Chartered $20 bank note.

I know! But it was stopped a number of months ago, I think.
Revived now and any bank's $20 will be welcome!

No Bitcoin, Paypal or mobile phone payments welcome, not even any old-fashioned credit or cash cards...

In the Blue Goose Tavern tonight, 8:30pm
(not 8pm as on the poster. It's a Lamma event, usually +30 minutes from the announced time), their very first quiz night after their move from Wanchai to YSW.)

The new Lamma Home Based Workers Lunch will meet for our very first lunch today in the same location at 1pm.
Just show up, if you're interested!

From Jen Fulton:

"Morning!
The 11th Day of the 11th Month is Remembrance Day, in honour of fallen soldiers.
Longtime Lamma resident John Keith Stuart's documentary 'Gallipoli' will be showing at the Island Bar at 7pm.

Come on down to doff your cap and maybe buy a poppy. Thanks!"

An amusing photo just sent to me by Gentiane, showing Ashka, a very eager patron in the Beer Garden!

We've seen baby Facebook pages, now even pets get one!
Her dog has a cute one: Ashka the Mongrel, showing her Lamma adventures.

Lamma-zine story in the works...
