Long shot I know but does anyone know what might be up with our fridge? The freezer section is working fine but there's no cold air coming into the main section. We're on the verge of changing it for a new one but looking at a few days without a fridge is not good. Could it be easy to fix? If anyone can fix it they can have the fridge next week! Cheers.

I had that problem.
It needs to be defrosted.

The freezer compartment is where the freezing elements are, and the cold air travels through a channel to the lower part. That can ice up; thus needs to be defrosted.

Most fridges now do this automatically once a day, but they can get jammed up either by gunk in the channel or because the heating element that melts the ice isn't working.

(Back in the Olden Times we had to periodically chip away at the ice that built up on the freezer manually. Now it's automatic and easier, except when it fails.)

Empty the fridge, turn off and leave door open for 24 hours and it will defrost, water will drain out somewhere near the bottom as the ice melts, maybe into a drip tray at the bottom. When no more water appears, it's defrosted.

Then clean it, plug back in and see what happens.
If it still fails to defrost, after about a week the bottom part will be getting warm. It's useful to put a thermometer in the fridge to monitor it.
Then you might try more aggressive defrosting, using warm water to flush it out.
But the heating elements that do the defrosting may be kaput.

You can ask Kit at the Yanyan store to have a look but he charges about $250 even if he can't fix it, and it's hard to get parts for fridges so if the defroster is buggered, you basically have to throw it away. Or manually defrost it once a week.

PS: When I was doing this I stashed some frozen food with a neighbour and put the rest in an insulated box.

An update about fixing refrigerators:
Kit at the Yan Yan shop says he does not fix them anymore.
The Mr. at the Fok Ming estate agency/appliance store says that no one on the island repairs them anymore.
Any other ideas? My fridge finally broke.
