this guy has posted what appears to be music festivals on the island from 18 years ago. I love old videos like this that reveal life in Hong Kong from the 80s (especially).

Anyone know of vidoes or picture galleries of pre 2000 Lamma?

We have had quite a large number of pre-2000 photos all over this site. Even a few photo galleries were linked in the Lamma Links page, but some of them have gone offline when the websites changed or shut down.

Many thanks for this very interesting 5 video links. Anybody can remember the band "Electric Soup"? Even as an amateur-Lamma historian myself I've never heard of it.

Anybody still around attending these ancient parties?
Mr DickStock, Foxy, Bob Davis, etc! Please enlighten us!

Any more historic videos we could link or upload here?

"Pissed and Paint-splattered Punters"

I like that! Sounds like another catchy Lamma-zine headline, don't you think?
But tell us more, please, and I'll publish your story!

For example, where was the venue? The football court before the harbour reclamation? There were basketball hoops in the video...

Anybody got photos of that area before the reclamation? I've rarely seen good photos of that area from that historic time, last millennium. Any other input and photos from people who were there and survived till today - quite a few of them still living here - would be most welcome for a big, nostalgic Lamma-zine story to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Corner Bar closing this Thursday, Dec 11.

It's being celebrated only in London, but not on Lamma, quite disappointing. I tried to get Mark, who ran the Corner Bar back then and runs B&B now, to tell me more about the good/bad old days, maybe even do a little commemoration, but he's not eager... Anybody else among the local Corner Bar survivors, maybe?

A few more historic videos from Deborah Hosking:

"I digititized some old super 8 from the days when there was just one bar, called The Island, people swam in the water off the ferry pier, not so many ferries at night and no TV to speak of. So we had our own little film making festivals at Ka Ming's house (it was his projector). Boxes of cheap Aussie wine never tasted so good....

(the nom de plume is because these were posted for a class).

this one, "Chickenman," is a Lamma classic:

Definately in attendance, Foxy

Don't think so - spent most of 1991 in hospital, or was that '92

It would be better to speak of pre-1997 photos, as that would be more significant ,socially and historically, rather than pre-2000 photos. The venue was the school on the hill-top behind Yung Shue-wan village.

A Chinese band fronted by the artist Mok Chi Yu played as well. He is a film director now. At the end of their set Mok yells out to the audience "Fuck you!". This elicited a favourable response from all.

I have some rolls of B/W film that I shot that day. Must hunt them down.
