I first moved here in 1992 and stayed for a month or two at the late Pinky Chan's guesthouse, known as Pinky's Palace.

I know it was up in Tai Peng, but I've been wandering around there in the past few months and can't dredge up my 20-year-old memory to work out exactly where the building is (or was).

Does anyone else remember it? Any pointers?

She used to run an illegal guesthouse in Poi Wah Yuen (at the top on the right just before the bins), complete with a set of 'siege engine' steps to get around the planning regulations.

I remember it had a split-level roof, and the rear windows looked out onto a small mosquito-filled swamp then the hillside. Not the nicest place I've ever lived...
