Was on the 4pm ferry from Central today. It started reversing from the pier, when I heard a long and continuous signal. Looked back and a New Worlf First Ferry 3-storey boat from Mui Wo or Cheung Chau was very close behind us, seemingly going full steam.

Our boat (Sea Spirit) switched to full forward and avoided the collision.

Do these sort of incidents trigger investigations, like minor incidents and near-misses in aviation do?

Unlikely. We'd never have heard of this incident if you wouldn't have reported it. Thank you!

As this kind of incidents are not uncommon in Victoria Harbour and nobody was injured, no follow-up action or even a news report will be happening, I'm pretty sure.

We've even seen actual collisions and no follow-up action was taken by anybody, as long as nobody was injured. You can try to complain, but you'll likely get very little feedback, I'm afraid.

If the ferries were close to the piers, nether would have been going "full steam".

Anyway, how close is "very close"? That's the important question.

If you can't put any numbers to this, you can't make an report that anyone can take action on.

But if you want, you can make a "Report of Marine Incident" to the Marine Dept:

Note their office is in the Harbour Building, right next to the piers.
