Following the 3-day official mourning period set up by the HK Govt. starting today, Oct 4-6, I've set up an online condolence book in our forum. You can post your condolences, thoughts and pictures, in any language and any format. If you have any problems posting, email me at info@Lamma.com.hk and I'll post it for you. The solemn SCMP editorial cartoon above was created by Harry Harrison (used with his friendly permission). A physical Condolence Book will also be available for your signing in the Rural Committee Buildings in North & South Lamma, during office hours from today till Sat, 9am-5pm. A 3-minute silence will be observed all over HK at noon today, including the YSW Rural Committee Building (opposite HSBC). To get started and get you inspired, here's a poem by the Official Court Poet of the Lamma-zine, John Stuart:

Cath Hoe, Banyan Bay Café {L_WROTE}: (Oct 2 on Facebook, republished with her permission):
Our poor island and country has truly suffered a devastating loss this weekend. My thoughts of love and wishes are for those involved in this tragedy. The energy on our Island last night was confused, fractious and panicked, volatile and angry combined with a full moon and long holiday, I think we were a little bit lost. Today we woke and the impact of that loss was realised and it was so much more terrible than we thought. How we reacted as a community I think is more significant. Tonight the Island felt full of love, loss and harmony. Thank you all. If we stay with this energy we can heal and make sure this never happens again. RIP to those lost; may they find their way home. |

A wonderful way to describe the feelings of Lamma residents. And very true in what a close knit community we all are, regardless of race or religion. And the sadness that we now feel. It was a terrible tragedy. My heart and love go out to all the families. |

I was deeply saddened by the news about the deaths. I am so very sorry, words don't describe how sad I feel. This must be very difficult time for all families involved. Every time I look at the ferry now, I think of what happened and how avoidable this could have been. I know how much the families will miss their loved ones, and I hope that in the aftermath people will not get too focused on things that will take away the good memories of all of those that have died. May God bless all the families during this time and always. |

The 3-minute HK-wide silence is just happening right now while I'm typing these words, triggering a feeling of deep sadness for all the innocent lives lost in this senseless tragedy. I'm expressing my deepest condolences & sincere sympathies to the friends, families and loved ones of all the victims of Oct 1's tragic ferry accident. May they rest in peace. Some of the victims were colleagues, friends or family members of some of my friends & acquaintances in HKKF and HK Electric, people I cherish dearly. The ferries, the Lamma Power Station and all their staff are an absolutely vital and irreplaceable part of our community and we depend on their demanding and professional work every day. Thank you to all of them! |

My heart is broken for all of you, for such a terrible thing to have happened to such innocents, on such a happy day, in such a beautiful place. May you find strength to recover, but never to forget. Zazen on Ching-t’ing Mountain The birds have vanished down the sky. Now the last cloud drains away. We sit together, the mountain and me, until only the mountain remains. |
