Post subject:  Lamma Videos

It's not easy to find videos about Lamma actually worth watching. Should we try to compile a list, well ahead of the pending release of Alba the Filmmaker's Lamma documentary she's been filming over the last several months.

Here are 16 interesting videos, in addition to all the shaky, blurry, often crappy tourist videos on YouTube, usually of the "I went to Lamma for the day, hiked the Family Trail and had seafood, yay!" variety.

http://www.hd-videoreviews.com//list.php?q=lamma+island&sa.x=17&sa.y=13&filter=off

Please let us know about YOUR favourite Lamma videos and I'll put together a "Lamma Videos" page for this site. I've got a few classics already, for example "Isle Be Damned"....

Half a year ago, I posted the message above, looking for Lamma-related videos. No replies so far, so I might have to find them myself.
Here's another very nice one I just got told about by Nick the Bookman who's rarely online and then only to do his emails, by Lammaite aljack65, a frequent Lamma Photo of the Day contributor, set to the very catchy, melodious song "La Vie est un Cadeau" (Life is a Gift):

Lamma Island - Yung Shue Wan by aljack65

Plus another popular Lamma video, taking the Star Ferry (sic) to Sok Kwu Wan seafood dinner:
Hong Kong Lamma Island by qqparrya.

The new short film by Lamma United, To Whom It May Concern, premiered last night in Lung Kong Rest and Diesel's will also go online very soon.

What are YOUR favourite Lamma videos?

Ron's Lamma documentary is finally done and he just called me to announce it. Here it is, including interviews with many well-known Lammaites (I was interviewed as well, but wasn't eager to be filmed.)

Definitely the very best Lamma documentary I've seen in many years! Click below to play it on YouTube:

<img src="http://www.compunicate.com/Lamma/Blog/Video-of-the-Day/Lamma-Landfill-wp.jpg" border=1>
Lamma Landfill - by Ron Anderson -13:43 min

"This short documentary portrays residents of Hong Kong's tiny Lamma Island - an outpost of several thousand residents amidst a city of seven million people. Once a quiet farming and fishing village, Lamma Island is now a growing popular suburb for both expat and local city workers. Watch Lamma's villagers struggle to protect the island's natural charm from dense urban sprawl."

Look what I've found on YouTube, after searching for quite some time for this video rumoured to exist:

<img src="http://www.compunicate.com/Lamma/Blog/Video-of-the-Day/Lamma-Lake-Jump.jpg" border=1>
"Lamma Lake jump - The birdmen of Lamma Island" - 300 views so far

Biking off a custom-built ramp into the sweet water lake in the Lamma Quarry, one of the wildest things ever to do on Lamma....

So when will they build a bridge between two Power Station chimneys so we can go bungee jumping? Macau Tower could do it, why not HK?

There's a pretty nice and wide-ranging selection of Lamma-related videos on http://video.google.com, aggregating them from several other video sites so it's a lot more and better stuff than you can find only on YouTube.

Try this one for starters, found after searching for "Lamma Island", click below:

Look what I found on Flickr today:

An insider's look into Anonymous Guy's amazing Bird Garden up in the Tai Shan forest. The Garden was custom-designed and -built over several years specifically to photograph birds. His off-island friend Neil shot lots of videos in there and put some into a great music video, the very first Lamma birds music video, I'd reckon:

How would it look like if you'd put a model helicopter with 4 rotors, a quadrocopter, with a remote-controlled video camera with fish eye lens into the courtyard of the Concerto Inn rest. on Hung Shing Yeh beach and have it lift off, fly high above the beach, look around and then land again?

LammaJoeYu found out, uploaded it to YouTube and then sent me the link:

Thanks for the link, Foxy!
I've featured this beautifully done video last year in the Lamma-zine.
The video is from French-Swiss Alain, a very frequent Lamma Picture of the Day contributor. Some of these 1,381 views probably came via links from the Lamma-zine.

Great soundtrack: "Life is a gift", a very catchy, famous French ditty.

There are quite a lot of Lamma day-trip videos on YouTube and Vimeo, but it's not easy to find the really good ones. There's too much stuff like "Drunk Gweilos on Lamma Island"....
