Pleased you read those lines & get a chuckle coz since the Blog link started linking to the photo & not the forum seems you & I are the only ones visiting the forum.
On that note, I only do the weather thing as a way of introducing a daily photo.
Started off trying to be weather specific but gets harder & harder daily.

If you have any other suggestion, & not too time consuming, it'd be welcomed........... like Nature photo of the day etc........... that way others won't feel as if they're intruding on what isn't really meant to be a gallery of my pics......... others can post & I'll see what I can do to get them linked to the blog page.

In the meantime............. albeit a little late.......... the weather..........

26/07/2006 - Tropical Depression Kaemi has weakened into an area of low pressure over the southern part of Jiangxi.
The rainbands associated with the remnant of Kaemi are affecting southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight
Cloudy with occasional rain.
A few squally thunderstorms later. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.

Outlook : Thundery showers in the next couple of days

30/07/2006 - Apologies for so many bug photos, but not so many bird or bird opportunity shots these days.

Have shown these last 2 images of what I think is some sort of Carpenter Bee coz highlights the difficulty of photographing subjects with Blacks & Whites - in the lower image the the whites haven't blown, but detail in the black areas has been compromised, especially with little detail in the eye.
With this image the blacks have been captured, once again by detail in the eye, but at the expense of the whites which have "blown".
When the whites aren't blown the image can be salvaged in postprocessing.... however not really worth the effort with these 2 images coz they aren't really good enough to warrant the effort........... both were taken with a 70-200mm lens, where a more appropriate lens would have been a dedicated macro lens :?

Thanks Tjungarayi on behalf of everybody............... although, if others want to post their nature photos here I'll get them onto the blog page with appropriate credits.

01/08/2006 - Some kind of Stink Bug - black background doesn't suit very well - used flash to try & get the depth of field whilst using 60mm Macro Lens & 20mm ext.tube, and with a clear background so ended up with just black - subject is a little too centred & flash too high resulting in the shadow under the body - needs a better flash system

21/08/2006 - Watched this chap for several hours over the last couple of days........ at first thought he was being territorial, but then noticed he was attacking & leaving with flies he'd caught........ then one time he attacked & made off with a Potter Wasp. Returning about 5 minutes later to continue his fly-fest.
Noticed as well when another Vespa velutina approached they got into a fight & he ripped off half its leg..... nice chap.
He became quite aggressive toward me as well........., so when photographing had to keep still while he circled inches from my eyes..... he didn't like me being around.
Are also known as "Killer" wasps as described in a previous posting.
