<img src="http://rdanderson.com/macgyver/images/mac2x.jpg" hspace=10 vspace=4 align=left>Well, Chuck, as you don't even know how to spell his name, you don't seem to remember MacGyver yourself all too well...

His website says "Richard Dean Anderson is best known for his role as MacGyver for seven seasons on ABC. Using science and his wits, rather than violence, MacGyver could solve almost any problem."

I remember seeing a few of the shows and liking the science geek aspect of it. But often his solutions were nothing short of miraculous...

Well, I actually like the other Stargate characters much better than Anderson's blockhead military character. Anyone for the absolutely delightful Amanda Tapping, the geek goddess and by far the best actor/actress of the series! :jump:

Oooooh, you saw the 3G (Glorious Geek Goddess) in person!!!
You've been truly blessed, my friend!

Did she touch the ground while walking or did she simply float?
She can walk on water, you know!

Her best quote of the entire series, IMHO, a few episodes after she managed to trigger a sun going nova:

"You blow up one sun and everyone expects you to walk on water!"

I'm not quite certain how to break this news, but after a great 10-year run (more than 200 episodes) it has been announced that the series Stargate SG-1 is being cancelled. 2006-07 will be the last season of production unless someone rescues it. In truth, a 10-year run is extraordinary for any TV series (uh, with the exception of Coronation Street, of course). Stargate Atlantis will continue.

So, we will all have to search elsewhere to see our beloved Dr. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) gracing our screens. Will life as we know it ever be the same?

Sad, but true.

SG-1 R.I.P., but let the re-runs continue!

Well, Chuck, they've been rumouring SG-1's demise every season for the last several years, but always continuing it in the end, sometimes at the very last minute.

But I have to admit, having seen ALL episodes so far, the series is running out of steam, fading out in a way, the main villains (almost) vanquished and more internal squabbling in the story lines. Replacing MacGyver with the weird, often annoying Farscape guy hasn't helped te series either...

Nice photos of the Great Geek Goddess above, Chuck, but I'm not really comfortable with the right pin-up pose. Her great attraction is being smart and sassy, with fantastic acting talent and beauty as well, but she's never playing merely "sexy". She doesn't need to, as the Stargate team's genius scientist.

Currently, the DVDs are available up to about the middle of Season 9, straight imports from the US and UK. I've watched them all by renting the disks for 3 days as soon as they come out, about US$3 for 3 episodes per disk. So there are still at least 1.5 seasons ahead before the rumoured demise and, quite likely, another last-minute save and continuation. Neither of these two series has ever been shown in HK, any pan-Asian satellite channel or Broadband TV, to my knowledge.

Stargate Atlantis is in the middle of season 2 on DVD at the moment and there are loads of cross-overs with Stargate: SG-1. It'll be a worthy successor, fresh blood reviving the franchise, literally speaking, as their new villains are kind of campy space vampires.

I thought that posting that vampy picture of the 3G would garner mixed reactions ... in fact I was rather startled to run across it, so I thought I'd stir the pot a bit even though it's not really apropos :)

I fully agree that the latest episodes are running out of steam, and I miss Anderson's occasional smart-ass attitude, as annoying as it can be at times. MGM hasn't said officially if they will seek another network to run the series so perhaps that, plus the declining quality, really spells the end this time. We'll see.

I haven't gotten all that close to the Atlantis series, although I'm developing a dislike for the argumentative character of the Canadian scientist on the team (forgot his name).

In the mean time, re-runs of the original series are done twice a day here, which is more than enough.

I've often suspected that there's a Stargate hidden on Lamma somewhere. Some of the weird and wonderful characters you meet here on a daily basis look like they've just arrived from another planet and/or another time...
