Sketch Trek at Aberdeen Praya, March 2014

A three-session workshop for beginners or experienced artists to complete a finished piece of art.

The first session will be at Aberdeen Praya where artist and teacher Roz Keep, will help you collect as much visual information as possible -- sketches, photographs and notes.
Aberdeen Praya is still one of Hong Kong’s most varied and colorful locations with mountain, sky and water views, high rises, boats, people and interesting features in the re-vamped waterfront park -- references to the fishing community of not so long ago including sampan-styled benches, realistic “bronze” statues, attractive landscaping, mature trees and an old-style Hakka house for Chinese Chess players. This area also offers a number of sheltered options in case the weather is un-cooperative.

The second and third sessions will be indoors using the raw material from Aberdeen Praya to work on a finished piece.

Working on location means many constraints -- insufficient space and time, no table, un-cooperative weather and even inquisitive strangers. But we can still collect visual information in the form of sketches and photographs and then retreat to a more comfortable place to complete a picture.

Roz works mostly in water colours but she can show you how to use acrylics, water colour crayons and other water-soluble techniques, pastels and collage. You can work out your own composition and ideas with guidance from Roz as needed, or you can follow a project that Roz will set.

March 5: Session 1 outdoors at Aberdeen Praya -- 2 hours, starting at 9.45am
March 12: Session 2, indoor session venue tba -- 10am-1pm
March 19: Session 3, indoor session, venue tba, 10am-1pm

A materials list will be sent out and some materials will be provided to enable you to try different media. When you sign up, please indicate whether you are an experienced artist and wish to do your own painting, or would like to do a set project.

Charge: $1,200 for three sessions.
Deadline for sign-ups: February 25, 2014.

Contact: janetaipeng@Gmail.com

Aberdeen Praya is easy to reach by public transport. The exact rendezvous point will be confirmed closer to the date of session 1.
