There's an excellent small rehearsal studio in Kimberly Road, TST, and Alan's in Wanchai. Ask Dan the Bastard, he'll give you more info.

Hi Homer!

The best places to rehearse (price & value-wise) are in Mong Kok. There are 3 rehearsal studios in SIncere Bldg. in Mongkok. The best one is Mono Studio on the 3rd floor (rm 311) - Tel: 2395-5719 - Ask for Tommy. Prices range from HK$100/hour after 6pm - rooms are much cheaper before 6pm. There's also President Studioson the 8th floor - Tel: 2392-8877.

Do you & your musician friends bring your own guitars to rehearsal? If so then Alan's Studio is OK. I don't like the studio myself as the amps & mics aren't that great and their guitars are crap. Again, it's OK if you bring your own guitars/bass etc.

There's also Peter's Studio in Kimberly Rd., TST (very near to Granville Rd.) Tel: 9352-6215 - tell him Chris from Sisters of Sharon gave you his number - you'll get a better price then.

If you fancy something more up-market, the BEST place to rehearse is at Mark One Studio - in Jordan. Tel: 2723-8778. Once Koya fixes up the recording desk - this will once again be the best place in town to record an album

Hope that helps! How's your search for band mates going? Have you ventured over to the Wanch on Wednesday nights for jam night?

Hey BBChris - Thks for the low down on rehersal space. I think I may have a drummer and a bass. I need a singer/frontman who can play Harmonica to get that Chicago Blues sound (Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf). Someone like the late great Lee Brilleaux from Doctor Feelgood would be ideal. Remember Doctor Feelgood? What a band! I think they even played in Hong Kong once.

Homer!

Sounds great! As long as you don't get William Tang (Blue Wail) to be your frontman - you'll do fine!!! William's great but then everyone would think you were Blue Wail - hahahahahahhahahahah

I'll have to listen to some Doctor Feelgood NOW!

Have an outstanding creative musical journey!!!!!!!!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Who the hell is William Tang?! Don't sound like no Blues Brother to me. Is he like the local Blues equivalent of Kenny G?
Dr Feelgood - Anything prior to 1983 is great - especially if it features Wilko Johnson on guitar - one crazy mother.

hahahaha Are you saying you've heard of ME but not William Tang? He's the local 'blues' guy who sings, plays harp & a little guitar. He's not performing at the moment cause he's SARS fearful. That's cause he plays the blues - hahahaha

Whereas a rock chick like me will take the stage this Friday - the SARS Good Friday - hahahahahahahhahaha

OK! Thanks for the tip - I'll kazaa it

Tell William he's got it all wrong. All the great blues singers sound like they are suffering from SARS. This could be a chance for him to aquire that authentic blues growl. He should be playing a residency at Amoy Gardens...
Where are you playing on Friday??

I got those...., can't get enough of those....... SARS blues.... ooohhh yeahhhh..ahhghhmmm... cough, splutter etc

William is the best harp player in town, and is well in demand for his session work on the instrument. His guitar playing has come a long way in the last few years, and he's now able to play those Stevie Ray Vaughan tunes that Patrick Murdoch used to play the guitar for in Blue Wail.

Give the guy a break, at least he's got some talent.

hahahaha William is the most famous blues guy in HK and a lovely sweet guy. Sisters christened his first rehearsal studio and recently Thinking Out Loud used his facilities to record some songs. He KNOWS I'm not a blues fan. hahahaha

So My Hairy Ass, who woke up rather sensitive this morning?? hahahahha

Pat is an even better guitar player now and is making a name for himself in London, England.

Hey Chris where does William usually play, and what's the name of his band ? From H.A's comments sounds like he's worth checking out - 'specially if he covers a few Stevie Ray numbers

Hi Homer!

Oh yeah he's worth checking out if you like the blues - he does a great Jimi Hendrix cover too. hahahaha His band is called Blue Wail - which ISN'T performing at the moment due to SARS - once that's over; members of the band will return to HK. I think it's possible that William himself is also out of town but not sure. They usually play the Fringe Club.

Have you ever been to 48th Street Chicago Blues in Tsim Sha Tsui? Tommy Chong's bar? Tommy has a great blues band too. Great sound in that small club. They have different bands on nightly there. Not just blues but that's Tommy's number 1 love.

Tommy's bar certainly is a good spot for the blues, some good players there on a weekend just sitting in for a jam as well. William is a nice guy and worth checking out.

Good luck with the band Homer.

this ass was a little tender this morning, yes indeed.

Hi Homer,
If you need a second guitarist, please contact me here:

I am from Switzerland but moved here 2 years ago. I've been trying to start a blues band since then but nobody seems to know what blues is over here !! SRV and Chicago Blues: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy, and so many other "real" bluesmen is exactly what I am into. I can play solos, rythm guitar, dobros, and 2 or 3 notes of bluesharp, but don't sing. Would love to play in a blues band again.
Cheers,
Seb

Sorry I missed the early part of this discussion. Although he does not play the harp, Roy Stark is another very good blues musician. As far as I know, he still lives in Hongkong, on Lantau Island, maybe. Roy plays the most beautiful dobro and sings the bluest blues:) He also plays guitar and accordion.
