Call Of The Villages, 1934-1938: This 20 min 33 sec film depicts how Mahatma Gandhi settled in a village and dedicated himself to the ... all ยป cause of village-reconstruction through the revival of arts and industries to make the village self-reliant. It also explains his theory of education aiming at producing the whole man and highlights the reaction of the apostle of non-violence to the bursting of war-clouds over Europe.

{L_QUOTE}:
"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."

-- Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C. :star:

{L_QUOTE}:
"Universal responsibility is the feeling for other people's suffering just as we feel our own. it is the realization that even our own enemy is activated by the quest for happiness. we must recognized that all beings want the same thing we want. this is the way to achieve a true understanding, unfettered by artificial consideration."

If we have love, there is hope to have real families, real brotherhood, real equanimity, real peace. If the mind of love is lost, if you continue to see other beings as enemies, then no matter how much knowledge or education you have, no matter how much material progress is made, only suffering and confusion will ensue. Beings will continue to deceive and overpower one another. Basically, everyone exists in the very nature of suffering, so to abuse or mistrust each other is futile. The foundation of all spiritual practice is love. That you practice this well is my only request. Of course, to be able to do so in all situations will take time, but you should not lose courage. If we wish happiness for mankind, love is the only way.

If you have love and compassion toward all sentient beings, particularly toward your enemy, that is true love and compassion. Now, the kind of love or compassion that you have toward your friends, your wife, and your children is essentially not true kindness. That is attachment . That kind of love cannot be infinite.

The true expression of non-violence is compassion."

-- His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, world-renowned Tibetan Spiritual Leader :star:

{L_QUOTE}:
"When I open my eyes I must sigh, for what I see is contrary to my religion, and I must despise the world which does not know that music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy."

-- Ludwig van Beethoven, quoted by Bettina von Arnin, letter to Goethe, 1810 :star:

Great post, Mr. Flame. Thank you.

Buddha was right: everything is related to everything else. This is because we can connect any two things using language, and if something were to have nothing to do with something else, this would be its relationship, meaning that the assumption, that there is a pair of things that have naught to do with each other, generates its own contradiction, therefore Buddha was right.

And this isn't some academic concern. In the 1960s, in America, a "practical" American would have laughed to scorn a Beatnik poet who put his spray can underarm deodorant, and the South Pole, in the same sentence: then, scientists discovered the relationship between the release of aerosol propellant and the ozone hole, especially over Antarctica.

Of course, in our personal and business lives most of the time, we savagely use an Xacto knife to "focus" with what we think is maturity on isolated problems, and the fact that for nearly all white-collar employees, a rectangle (the Web page) surrounds everything is a form of psychoanalysis in reverse, in which our subconscious mind learns that everything comes in a box.

Beethoven was an interesting quote, since in practice he was pretty cranky. Of course, I'd be a grouch too if I lost my hearing and I was a professional musician.

Anyway, a nice, humanistic Christmas message in a dark time, of preachers and mullahs bawling from the roof-tops.
