Many of you might have heard of the BIG police raid on Yung Shue Wan last Saturday night, Chinese Valentine's Day, Feb 15?

Any first-hand accounts of people witnessing the raids?
I've heard only 2nd-hand stories, not sure how much of it is true. Please correct my rumours:

About 50 policemen in 3 police boats landing in 3 different spots of YSW harbour, swarming all over YSW, checking all bars & restaurants, licenses, fire safety, noise levels (closing down Y2K and the Karaoke Bar for the night because of loud music. Nick was DJing in Y2K at the time).
Sorry, no info on any arrests or fines...

This crack-down was rumoured to be a "revenge" for a recent Chinese newspaper cover story, featurng some Jordan (Kowloon) nightclub guy. He was bragging to the reporters, something like that the police are only in charge before midnight. But after midnight the nightclubs and their patrons rule, doing whatever they like and the police is powerless.

This seems to have upset the police bosses tremendously, making them lose face in public, so they ordered a crack-down on Kowloon and the Outlying Islands.

True? Any more stories on the raid?

I think you will find the police are just doing their job, as these checks (raids is a little strong, don't you think, or are you just out to blow things out pf proportion?) occur often on all the islands, not just Lamma, and have done for years.

MHA exactly lamma gung calm down don't get so excited. It is purely routine that a large police contingent arrive on Saturdays a regular thing for as many years that I have been here and more I am told. I suspect alot of it is to do with training. In actual years ago they actually used to do ID checks on patrons as routine now they just check the bars' license. May be you should get a job with some tabloid.

legless, i think lamma-dung is too busy posting the majority of the messages on this self-promoting site to get a REAL job, tabloid or otherwise.

Get on with fact man, not rumour, scandal, or riot incitement so you have something to write about in your zine thing.

My Hairy Ass {L_WROTE}:

Please supply more facts, as rumours are all I have about in this case, as I clearly said above. I was hoping to find the true facts from people who might have witnessed the events. So far in vain.

"Rumours, scandals and riot incitement" never had a place in the e-zine, even though they would definitely boost the readership massively!

Instead of griping, you and anybody else has always been invited to contribute and write about anything Lamma-related in the e-zine. You're most welcome to write something with more "facts", much cleverer & funnier than I ever could; and it'll be my pleasure to publish your writings/pictures/jokes...

but what about the format?
your articles and the way you present them do have their distinctive style, so even provided i wanted to write something, i would not really think of putting it in your ezine, i would open a new thread somewhere and thats that, because then i could just follow my own whim. if you are serious about making your ezine a multi contributor thing you might want to consider making it more flexible in shape

I'm sorry, I can hardly understand a word you're trying to say...
Could somebody translate for Mr. Bin Loden, please?

But maybe we're all better off NOT understanding what he's trying to say...
