Lamma-Gung, from what I've read so far about Lamma the inhabitants live in a very relaxed atmosphere. Add that to its location and scenery and it sounds like my kind of place.

As far as flats are concerned, I woulnd't be looking for anything too fancy. I don't have the money to be able to afford luxurious living.

Another quesiton came to mind last night. If you bought somethng heavy, like a piano for example, on hong kong island how would you have it transported across?

If you do use any other service, then his seven dogs (including me) would sniff you and come to attack. So be very very cautious about your decision.

p.s. I must off to visit my shrink, life on lamma is so tough and intense. It's hard for a humble dog...

let mr 3 put the record straight.

there's a freight boat that operates between yung shue wan and hongkong island. if u have something real big, u can always engage their service. its not difficult to find it. the boat is often berthed either at the ferry pier or at the other pier with the garbage collection.

for other smaller items, including simple furniture, u can use the normal ferry service. they would charge for frieght, of course.

Just found this website after deciding to relocate back to Hong Kong after living and working in Beijing for too long. If anyone has more useful tips or descriptions of life on the island, please keep the messages coming, it's all invaluable and much appreciated information. I'm also on the lookout for a flat on Lamma so if anyone decides to give up their place in the next 6-8 months, please let me know. Thanks to everyone for all the useful info so far.

well, to be sure of getting a sanpan from Aberdeen, I would suggest looking along the waterfront rather than the town centre. They are wooden and float. Mainly toothless old hags that operate them and no I don't have a phone number.

What does Hong kong have in the way of arts,crafts, and stationery stores? Do they have like a staples or an officemax or something?
