I didn't know that! As a Lamma newbie, I'd better behave myself then!

How does the voting-off process work, yaffle?
Is there a public hearing, a kangaroo court, a public flogging, tarring & feathering, and lynching at the end?
I don't think Mr. LammaNetPolice would approve...

Well, I have to admit not to be bothered by LammaNetPolice so much anymore as in the beginning.

He's mellowed recently, showing his human side by being interested in music and finding a girlfriend, even injecting a bit of humour into his formerly stern warnings.

Lamma seems to have that effect on most people, taking off the rough edges by relaxing and mellowing them, making them more human and being more interested in quality of life than quantity of material possessions...

As the newly crowned Miss Lamma.com.hk, I can understand your reluctance admitting these rumours. Anything disreputable could jeopardise your title!
But not on Lamma.com.hk! Any disreputable rumours will just make you even more FAMOUS!

Well, I have to admit to having been naughty occasionally... :oops:

I could have gotten these photos from your Blah-Blah board, couldn't I?
But it would have been too much trouble and too time-consuming...

Let's just say you should protect your own server files a bit better.
I was a quite famous but reputable hacker in my long-distant youth (last century!), but no fancy security flaw was required to find your photos.

ANYBODY can simply look at all your photos on your server by simply following the web address from any of your posted photos. Simply list the entire directory in the browser, not just the linked photo. Instead of saying "not permitted" your server displays a directory of all files.
It's a very common security flaw and easily remedied with a "chmod" UNIX command on the directory.

You were out of town, offline, and I needed some photos for the e-zine urgently, for the Miss Lamma.com.hk story...
You've never been shy about showing off any of your photos before...
So I've had a quick look for some nice, but not offensive photos...
Unfortunately, nothing really steamy on your server... :shock:

Yes, I'm a BAAAAAD LAMMA-GUNG, :twisted:

and you're allowed to slap my dirty fingers next time we meet... :wink:

P.S. Am I being submissive and apologetic enough to survive this bad deed?

Well, leave it to the k@, our techie, to come up with a complex solution to a simple problem...

A simple "chmod" command would simply block access to snoopers.

Of course, your complex way would work fine and the redirect is a nice touch, but a simple empty index.html page would do the trick as well.

People will only get to this page if they're snooping around, like me!
No point being nice to these naughty snoopers and redirecting them friendly to the main page!
How about a nasty surprise, like an HTML "virus", for these people, basically booby-trapping this page that can only be reached by snoopers? :twisted:

But I'm going to try out your solution right now anyway, as I have 1 or 2 places on my own server that are INTENTIONALLY not snoop-proof yet. :oops:

RE error page ads.

At the risk of being called a Techie again. Sigh!

Yes, It is a simple thing to do. you can swap your servers 404 page for whatever you like.

Even easier is to add a custom made error page which visitors are redirected to by your API.

If you are using Fusebox methodology it is useful to have all errors redirecting the visitor to the the HOME application page where all the switches are kept.

Some web applications produce an error page containing links to main sections of the site so it is easy for the visitor to recover.

The JavaScript redirect page is the non-techyist to do as it is a clientside solution and can be used by anyone who knows their own web address and can use an FTP program.

I was just splitting my sides with laughter at LammaNetPolice getting romantically interested in webdog, asking him if he's looking for "a short term dalliance, a brief passionate fling, or a meaningful long term relationship, including possibly, starting a family?"

Well, webdog started it unwittingly by writing about "thousands being attracted by your law enforcer's manhood." Let's wait to see how he'll get out of this one!

Thanks for the link LammaNetPolice, you are indeed a fine detective.

IP addys are automatically logged by the PHP board software though. So it is easy to trace people unless they are cloaking. Spoils all the fun though don't you think.

If you are hot on the trail of a suspect though, post a picture of them as below then contact Gung and he will be happy to co-operate I'm sure.

I have to agree grudgingly with our "fine detective".
So far my IP address searches have proven that "Fortune Chan" and "Joanne." (with a ".") are definitely the same person, but LammaNetPolice is out of that loop. But that was pretty obvious before from reading their messages...

We'll keep an eye on further behaviour from our active impersonators. This is a happy, free-spirited place and everybody's opinion is welcome! But we're also a law-abiding place and we follow the spirit, but not every letter of the law.

This does absolutely not prohibit us from having great fun here, poke fun at, take the mickey out of, ridicule or tease anybody we like, as long as we don't seriously libel anybody without a sense of humour like a big, powerful corporation or the police force... Ooooops, too late! :oops:

After years of experience in running online communities, I know the legal boundaries in HK pretty well. We'll continue to test the limits of "free speech" here. We have NOT crossed them anywhere yet on this website so far, otherwise we'd have stepped in. It has only happened ONCE so far, we had to take immediate action and resolved the problem right away.

Yours is the most simple and easy solution for redirecting web pages,
the most commonly used, and you can even set the delay in seconds before it takes effect.

You know, our techie k@ likes to show off his technical skills and dazzle us with his programming skills...

The simplest solution is not the one a true techie chooses, but the most technically sophisticated and clever...
