| Post subject: | HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING ON LAMMA A LONG TIME? |
this was the question the yung shue wan police station asked me when i called them last night to report that a rather drunken gweilo gentleman was staggering at the fork at wang long on the road to the beach (just before the mail box). i asked the police to send someone to check on this gentleman as he was rather drunk but seems to be loitering there for some reason. i told them yes, i've been living here for quite some time and the officer on the other side said: "since u've lived here quite some time, u should know that the westerners are often drunk like this."!!! i didn't want to lose my manners, so i just said, "yes, but can you please send someone to check on him." 2 policemen arrived in 10 mintues after i called. they came on their bikes, and it still took them 10 minutes. |

But they came! That's impressive! hahahahahhahahaha I once rang the police to complain because the $**$& Hash House Runners had gone into our garden early one Sunday morning and chalked 'on on' in our garden. The policeman said to me 'Oh lighten up and let them run through your garden'. Shaun went down to intercept the HH Runners who's lame excuse was, "Oh sorry, we thought it was Chinese people living there." Just one of those days you experience on Lamma..... |

These two posts raise some interesting points which we'll address point by point. "e" stated: "2 policemen arrived in 10 mintues after i called. they came on their bikes, and it still took them 10 minutes." "e", unless you're familiar with the caseload, duty roster and patrol schedules of the officer's in question, how do you know if 10 minutes is in fact an unreasonable time? You may or may not be aware that illegal immigrants from China have been a source of problems on Lamma for some time. It's quite likely the officers on duty have a higher caseload than you suspect. However we always welcome informants. Your cooperation is appreciated. "bbchris" stated: "The policeman said to me 'Oh lighten up and let them run through your garden'" "bbchris" this is in fact quite wise advice. You may or may not be familiar with "ramblers" laws in the UK. An enlightened approach to private property is essential to keeping the peace in a rural community. Following the link below will serve to demostrate the potential for trouble that can result from a closed mind over this issue: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4060835,00.html |

tks mr policeman for your insight about the heavy loads our lamma police is carrying. of course, we don't want our community to be swamped with ii's. i really wouldn't say 10 mins to too long if it was a noise complaint that i called about but i was rather worried about the gentleman in question and that's why your honoured colleagues are called for. by the way, does the lamma police really have patrol schedules? i rarely see them nowadays, except flying by on bikes. |

Has anyone told you about 1997? Why do I need to know about UK laws??? Would you like 50 people running through your garden? A garden you had spent months getting into shape? A garden that no one could have run through if we hadn't cleared it? |

Regarding 1997, it may interest you to know that BASIC Law is so named because it's BASICally UK law with Chinese characteristics. As such it serves the community well. The right of the individual (or brigade of individuals) to ramble across hill and dale, rocky waterless outcrop and malarial swamp, should be respected, even if you, or your landlord, has the right to build a structure on that land for a nominal fee. Incidentally, are you growing roses by any chance? If so, what variety? |

Wow, Mr Policeman is getting quite romantic here, "to ramble across hill and dale, rocky waterless outcrop and malarial swamp" and asking bbChris if she grows roses? Great pick-up line, showing his sweet and sensitive side to the new sweet and sensitive "Dear Sharon" personality of bbChris! bbChris, you might be in luck! You like tall men in uniform, don't you? |

It's been awhile since a policeman hit on me! hahahahahhahahaha No roses in my garden. Coleus, portulaca, pedilanthus (variegated Devil's backbone), bougainvillea, devil's Ivy, Rhoeo (moses-in-the-cradle), mother-in-law tongue (good for repelling snakes), purple heart, spider plants, zebrina, amaryllis, massange's prayer plant, banana trees, canna plants, frangipani trees and some other plants I haven't identified yet. Why? Oh! Do you carry a big truncheon LammaNetPolice? |
