I've just had a bill from the Bulidings Department for 650k for the compulsory repair of the slope by my flat which is private (long story) the work was completed a couple of years ago. I've been expecting this bill for years although they would never give me any indication of the amount but I now have 14 days to pay or else a charge will be placed against the property and interest added at a non specified rate.
I have tried to find out what the interest rate is but they have not responded to any of my communications. I am trying to find a mortgage and if that fails I will have to sell the flat.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and if so what advice might be given?

I'd visit their offices in Mongkok and ask to speak to someone to get the answers, or complain to the Govt hotline 1832 (phone or online)that they are ignoring you, and keep record of it. Courts charge 8%pa for outstanding debt, hope BD wont ask you for that.
