Post subject:  Woman attacked in YSW last Saturday!

Not sure what category to put this in other than Discussions, but I and the victim both feel that word should get out there in any way possible.

After coming home to YSW on the last 2:30am ferry Nov 24th (Saturday night), a woman was attacked by a strange man as he grabbed and sexually assaulted her around 3:20am. She was walking alone near the long weeds down the hill, just beyond the Lamma Grill. (Before you reach the Recycle/trash bins in the direction of the beach.)

The man wore a light colored hat, a solid light colored t-shirt, had "slightly darker than caucasian" skin, (but she could not tell race as it was dark and she was terrified). He was physically SHORT, "not an older man" (20-40ish), and spoke English to her when telling her to "Shut Up! Shut Up!" as he dragged her into behind the bushes. She begin to scream and struggle as he pinned her to the ground and tried to remove her top. She was then slapped across the face very hard by the man when she fought back. She punched him in the face giving her enough distraction to jump up and run away.

I found her outside lying on the ground and jumped on my bike to get the police and see if I could find this man as soon as she could calm down enough to tell me what had happened. I rode down past where she told me it happened and saw nobody. He had already fled. I drove to the police post and pushed a few useless non-working emergancy buttons on the front of the building. I had no phone on me to call the police so figured I would try the other station near the beach. On the way I ran into two police on bikes. I told them what happened and they came to speak to the girl. The questioning went on until the afternoon of the next day as we waited together for other officers/detectives from HK island to arrive.

I am hoping that somebody may remember this discription of a man during that nights beach party. i know many people were getting crazy that night and walking home from the beach area. The man was alone and coming from that direction when grabbing the girl as well. He wasn't hiding for somebody to catch, she just happened to come across his path at the wrong time. Maybe somebody heard the screaming and looked out their window? Maybe he wasnt from Lamma and just was stranded after the last ferry. But I couldnt find him (lucky for him) and I search on my bike for hours before the first ferry on Sunday. He had found someplace to crash and hide.

The police dont have much to go on, and well...I have very little faith it will be pursued very far by them. So please PM me if anything that could help comes to mind. Hong Kong, let alone Lamma, has always been a very safe place. And I dont want to scare people into fear because of one evil man. But be safe ladies when walking home alone. We need to help the police catch this guy.

That is awful news. I am very sad for the victim of this attack and hope that her family and friends will give the support that is needed. She should have scratched his face off to make him immediately identifiable and have DNA evidence under her finger nails. But I guess given the circumstances, a good punch on the nose was more effective. I hear that works with sharks. What a wanker. I hope he is caught soon. If its the dog 'fancier' / playground drug-dealer/ dog poisoner / serial bicycle bell ringer all rolled into one... Lamma will return to Peace :)

I am sorry that this happened to your friend. Unfortunately I don't think this information will help you, but a few months ago I was approached by a man very much fitting that description. I couldn't tell his nationality, he didn't look Chinese but was too dark to be 'caucasian'. No noticeable accent either.
It was around 2am, I had just turned into the small path on the right just after Brothers shop. This guy appeared from nowhere, right behind me, really close to my face saying 'can I help you?' (I had a couple of bags).
His manner and behaviour freaked me out so much (it wasn't a friendly manner before anyone thinks he was being helpful or just trying it on) I just said no thanks, turned around and went back on the main path. He followed me for a while, then I think someone else passed and he disappeared.
I was so weirded out by him, I called a friend to say I was going to let her know when I got home safely. There was something about him that really scared me (and I'm not easily freaked out by odd people on the streets of Lamma!)
I didn't report it or mention it on this website, because on paper it is not enough to claim he was a threat of any kind. But reading your friends description is exactly how I would describe this guy. It was a few months ago,and it was dark, so I don't think I would recognise him again. (I can give you exact date if you want, because other weirdness happened in the village that night that might trigger a memory. It was the night of the boat crash)
I am sorry that this probably isn't useful for you, but I thought I give you this information anyway.
I hope your friend is ok and recovering

A lot of views and very few posts. Surely someone has a clue who this might be? Or what he looks like? If he was hanging around on the path to the beach at 3.30am does that mean he's a Lamma resident? Or a day tripper who missed his ferry?

A guy I dubbed 'topless meltdown' spent July, August and September freaking people out on the path to Tai Peng but there's been no sign of him since....

Shocking to hear this. I hope the woman attacked is coping ok. Well done on punching the filthy shit and managing to get away. Please ... we need to pass the word on to our friends who feel safe on Lamma walking home at all hours (I'm one of em ,,, well I was) ... just to be vigilant and wary now.
Especially let people know who don't usually check out Lamma.com and may not be aware of the incident. I don't hold out much hope for the police even managing to give a shit but who knows. It would be a first but we live in hope.

Oh and Kagsie ... I agree with the other person who posted about this .... you MUST tell the police. Please. I know it goes against what I said earlier about the police giving a shit but it sounds so similar to this recent attack that they must give more credence to it if it's just more than an isolated incident. PLEASE REPORT IT . It's never too late.

Post subject:  Assault on Lamma Island

Shocking news to here. I hope the lady will be okay.

Anyone who knows anything Please, please, tell the police anything you may know because any more victims (if any) will be on your conscious if you fail to give any information you have.
Depending on his disturbed character, he could strike again and things could escalate if not caught.

I shouldn't need to remind people of their responsibilities.
Lets catch him quick and put a stop to this sickness.

Yes, but please just report to the police.

No guessing games trying to ID him here.

I've been working the last few days, but have tomorrow off. So I'll go and talk to the Police tomorrow. At the very least it may get them to patrol that area more at night.

For heavens sake Kagsie the police are always open and you have let 4 days go by without giving them your information. He could have had a few more victims in that time. You need arresting!

I've been told from experience that even a simple statement takes several hours with the police here. Unfortunately I haven't had that time.

Yes, statements can take hours, etc.... (A friend of mine found an ATM card still in the cash machine opposite the Police Post. When she handed it in, they wanted to know her name, address and ID. It took forever, and the Police were intrusive. All she wanted to do was hand in an ATM she found. Call it 'red tape' and beauracracy.)

But the Police do seem to have been making an effort in this instance, as clothes were taken from the lady who was attacked, and they did have 'sniffer dogs' in the area a few hours later. I'm not sure what the lastest is though.

It's shocking and terrible what happened, and I'm so sorry for the lady concerned. If there are any other suspicious cases, I think victims should let the Police know. It's a headache, but it needs to be done.

I went to the police, they said they have already arrested someone and that he was known to the victim. This doesn't quite fit with what was said earlier, but I'm just glad he won't be a problem for anyone else now.

He was not wearing glasses at the time.

And to all of those who have expressed concern, the victim is doing fine and going about her normal life activities at this point. Thanks

That is bull. There have been no arrests. and the victim did NOT know him! I am furious that the police would tell people that!!! Do you remember the officers name you spoke to?

It would seem that either :

A. The police are misinformed morons
B. Mixing up the cases
C. Don't want to bother taking a new statement
D. Trying to cover up the fact that they haven't done shit in the investigation since it happened.
E. All of the above

Doesn't seem that many people know about the incident. Last night, I mentioned to a resident whom I bumped into on the ferry about the incident. She said she was not aware of it. She said she would spread the word. And she told me an incident in Po Wah Yuen a few months ago. A woman got attacked by someone coming from behind. He grabbed her by her neck. Luckily she fought off.

I once saw a guy gagged and bound in the back of a van, going through the harbour tunnel. I reported it, gave number plate details and gave descriptions... And the police just passed it off as "private filming" and did not follow up on anything!

Post subject:  woman attacked

It would be nice if the police gave out information or advice to lone women. I was in that area this evening, by myself, a little drunk, no torch (but aware of what happened last week, so alert) a policeman rode past me just looking at the ground! There are still so many people who don't know anything about this attack, when I have told them they feel angry that there hasn't been more publicity about this by the police!
