Just a quick question regarding, the tap water...

Do you drink it?

I've been boiling it but I've noticed a funny taste and would like the views of others. If you don't recommend drinking the tap water, what alternative would you suggest?

i use a Philips tap filter from Fortress. It's definitely a good investment for you and the environment. No more plastic bottles! I change the filter every 4-5 months.

I drink the tap water. I put it in a large plastic jug in the fridge and have done so for many years.

We drink the tap water, too, but usually it's the left-over boiled water from making tea and coffee. No more chlorine smell and at least as good and tasty as most bottled waters; especially with ice cubes made from tap water; definitely much more pleasant to drink than all the weirdly bland distilled waters.

I've been working in a professional chemistry lab ages ago, and the teachers kept warning us of the dangers of drinking the distilled, perfectly pure water from our lab taps....

The mains water is perfectly safe.
See http://www.wsd.gov.hk/en/faqs/water_quality/index.html
Of course, the more paranoid prefer not to believe that.

But the domestic pipes can be rusty. Thats the most likely source of any taste problems, though rust isn't actually poisonous.

Just fill up a bottle and let it sit for a few hours and see if there's any sediment.

I've been drinking tap water here for 20 years.
Drinking water that's been in plastic bottles for weeks or months carries its own risks.

I drink tap water. I always intend to boil it as all my mates do, but I'm not always that organised.

Tap water tastes crap in HK, .. if it is tepid... the same as in London, and many other places around the globe that have safe tap water for consumption. But it tastes crap IMHO.

I find putting it in the fridge and drinking it cold helps. My dog too. If I refrigerate the tap water, we both drink more water. For many people that won't drink cold water, then I can't help, but the water apparently is safe.

Excessive consumption of Lamma tap water has been known to cause people to wear speedos though.
