The exposed water pipes running along the path to Sok Kwu Wan must have beein laid out by a team of drunken construction workers whose numeracy skills are worse than mine. I am no engineer, but surely one could have dug a trench instead of dotting the hills with countless concrete pillars, a few feet apart.

I think the clock is wrong on your computer. The pipes are awful, they really spoil the view of the power station.

zoopkabir,
nothing wrong with my clock, I am always a bit ahead of time!

Stainless steel doors and gates also offend my sensibility, especially in the morning, their glare is unbearable when you have spent the night in the den.

The main reason for laying above ground is that it is cheaper and quicker. Also GEO are always worried about the laying of watermains across slopes, ie they may burst and cause a landslide. Often an isolating trough is required depending on the risks and slope condition, which again increases costs. Actually a very practical solution.

Ok, but how about the visual impact?
Certainly those concrete pillars could have been smaller and the pipes could have run on the other side of the path, replacing the old rusty pipes that serve no purpose.
Anyway, doing things cheaply is a way to line someone's pockets!

They aren't exactly a major visual impact. Some may say a quaint rural utiliterian feel. Large blocks are needed at changes of direction otherwise the bend will blow off and you will have 10m jet of water.

You should be thankful it lines our pockets as the tax payer paying less tax.

A VV-driver told me the cement blocks is making the driving extremely difficult, for they have narrowed down the path which was already not that wide.

A side benefit as a traffic calming measure then. Brilliant.
