KELLETT THEATRE
KELLETT SCHOOL
KOWLOON BAY

A beautiful sunny day in May. At the village market love is in the air between Gerda and Kay. But, lo and behold, suddenly the nicest guy in the village turns HORRIBLE and then disappears!

And what is this? Can it be snowing in May?

Dame Gloria Stampworth and company suspect that only one person could be behind this - the dreaded Snow Queen! They're not wrong: her Icyness, with her troll accomplices, has BIG plans to remove fun and happiness from the world forever! The Snow Queen is struggling with a childhood curse, but why can’t she just . . . let it go?

Join Gerda and friends as she sets out to rescue her man and get the sun shining again in an evening of theatre guaranteed to set the heart racing.

A Hong Kong tradition for over 50 years, Hong Kong Players’ annual Christmas panto is an extravaganza of song, dance and jokes that will be loved by the young and the young at heart.

Change of Venue:-
Hong Kong Players has staged an annual panto for 55 years, making it Hong Kong's longest running and most enjoyed theatre tradition. Major trials and tribulations — and lengthy renovations — left us struggling this year to find a venue on Hong Kong island. Were we going to skip a year? We were not! Traditions are worth the fight. So PLEASE support us in this fight. Come to Kowloon this year to cheer, boo, laugh and generally enjoy a perfect start to the festive season. Oh yes it is!

I've asked Adam Harris the Writer/Director a few questions:

1. Would adults enjoy this show or is it more parents being dragged along by their youngsters? Or the other way around?
It is very much for all the family with plenty going on for the youngsters while also plenty of comedy aimed very much over the heads of children and for adult enjoyment. Many adults have fond memories of seeing panto when they were children.

2. How’s the Great European Carnival supporting you? Cash only or some tie-ins or services they’ll provide?
They did help with the staging costs. We are discussing at the moment about them giving free tickets, prizes etc. Some of the panto cast are likely to perform at TGEC.

3. Icyness, trolls, queen, a curse… will this appeal to Lord of the Rings and Fantasy fans?
Most certainly as long as they enjoy a good dose of comedy too.

4. Kellett Theatre?? In Kowloon Bay? Is that even still in Hong Kong? How to get there from Lamma?
We struggled very hard to get a venue on Hong Kong island but were let down time and time again - the Arts Centre still renovating, Udderbelly not returning etc etc We even considered missing a year of panto but decided we just couldn't! Panto is a tradition and we have to uphold that tradition. We are aware that it is a bit more of a journey - about 25mins by MTR from central and so have lowered our ticket prices considerably this year. Traditions, especially fun ones in a world full of worry, are worth the fight and we ask, hand on heart, for your support. Maybe Lamma residents can pool together and taxi-share.

5. How to win the Golden Ticket!?
One golden ticket will be randomly allocated by seat number at each performance. Eight names will thus be placed into the final draw and one picked out as the winner. If the seat is occupied by a youngster, then the adult in the nearest seat to his or her left will win the Golden Ticket - the prize of a night of luxury and 5 course meal for 2 is very much for the mums and dads of the audience!

Plus my questions to Max & Kitty, the 2 young Lammaite actors in this canto:

1. How did you get involved and have been selected for the roles?
MAX: My sister told me how fantastic panto was so I wanted to try it out for myself.

2. What was your parents and friends reaction that you’ll perform in this panto?
KITTY: They were all as excited as we were!

3. How did you prepare for this "Truly Wicked Panto" at home? Being Truly Wicked to each other?
BOTH: Yes! Though we have to practise a lot!

4. A queen, trolls, a curse… did this panto feel like acting in Lord of the Rings or some fantasy movie?
KITTY: It does because it's so magical working with all these amazing people!

5. Will this panto soon become a new e-book, a major movie or even, best of all, a truly wicked video game?
MAX: Guaranteed! This panto is so wicked, I'm extremely happy to be part of this team.
