'Flight-raising' all-nighter @ Open Space

'Flight-raising' all-nighter in aid of Tam's mum to be held on Saturday the 18th of January at Open Space, Lamma Island. Featuring live band plus DJs from 9pm to sunrise at Lamma’s favourite hill-top jungle paradise.

Objective 1: Assist Tamara Brockman in her goodwill mission to fly back to Canada. She is hoping to bring some cheer and positive vibes to the day-to-day hardships currently endured by her mum Brenda who has just entered her second year on the liver transplant waiting list. No stranger to music and good times, Brenda will love the way in which Tam has engineered her passage to Ontario.

Objective 2: To hark back to a clear but complex time in music when things were weird and good (eg. the 70's) and back again (eg. now.) Either with the use of authentic musical instruments or vintage musical-playback-devices the essence of this shimmery slither of time and subsequent offshoots will be prodded and poked to see what's what... In a nutshell, there'll be music, nodding of heads, dancing and stuff.

Entry: $30 min. donation

Bar: Cheap bar selling an assortment of alcoholic drinks.

Warmth: Fire; mulled wine.

Times: Live Music ~ 9pm-10pm: Helium; DJs till sunrise

Helium are going acoustic on Saturday but no doubt will serve up their usual eclectic blend of crunchy electro-coustic guitar riffs, soulful funky keys and original songwriting flair with a generous hour long phlegm-roast. They are set to break-in any creaky knees not affected by the walk up and perform with gusto not seen since the wind tore down Open Space's canopy last year.

10-11:30 ~ Parksy: A legend-cum-genius to some and a right pain in the eggs to others, (only kidding - we love you Parksy!..) is set to pull out his beloved 70's vinyl 45's from his hat, mince, then stuff them into the sound system, grumble a bit and finally release the contents on to the (dance) floor... First proper set at Open Space Alert!
(To listen to his mixes, please purchase a reel-to-reel player first.)

11:30 - 1:00 ~ Nick The Book: A legend-cum-genius to some and a photo opportunity to others, Nick is the Prince of eclectodelic-mayhem on a grand scale. The 70's will feature as will any other genre of music your brain can conjure up, each track he puts on just.. always.. seems to be massive, indescribable really..

1:00-3:30 DJ Junkt: A G-man to some and medieval detective to others, Junkt knows no bounds to sonic decency and willfully exposes his craft into eager ears. His sound encompasses the now with the then of yesteryear and the zen of yester-wierd with the now of now. . the now, as in when you suddenly notice you're wigging-out on the floor..

3:30-dawn: (Jungle) Jimbrowski - caretaker DJ will mop the floor after a long night (literally too). He has no idea what he’ll play but reckons it’ll be music of some sort. Strong possibility of playing a short set at the beginning of the night as well..

Donation: $30 minimum entry
Bar: cheap drinks
