Tamara Norris of Open Space writes about Interconnected and Intertwined, tonight, the largest event by current and former Lamma artists and musicians and friends:
6:30-11:30pm, Part-of Gallery G/F, 16 Sik On Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong Tel: (852) 2866 7208:
"On Friday, June 21, a unique collection of artists, musicians and performers will come together for a collaboration on a grand scale: the opening-night party of Interconnected & Intertwined, the interactive exhibition by artists Tamara Norris and Deborah McEntegart. The event, featuring performances across a wide range of disciplines, ushers in an exhibition that likewise puts collaboration at the heart of its artistic endeavor, inviting the audience to rotate the paintings in their frames, becoming dynamically involved in how they are construed.
Each of the performances is inspired by one of the artists' works. Singer-songwriter Aileen Alonzo will interpret one of Norris's paintings in a dreamscape-inspired song, Serpentine. Nina Plapp will provide a spoken-word performance accompanied by live looped cello sounds. Julez Clarke will also interpret one of Norris's pieces through spoken word using a range of propositions, which between them inform a process of critical engagement.
Graham Aston and Janet Ding, meanwhile, will create a physical representation of one of the paintings in the form of dance, using movement viewing the work as a symbol of contrast oscillating between the viewer as a mindful observer and the artist/painting as the embodiment of physicality. All of the performers will be wearing specially designed jewelry by Hanna Ejdertun Nylander of Hanna Christina Design.
To help those unused to the interactive nature of the exhibition, actors Kim Haslam and Ines Laimins will be on hand to give non-verbal guidance to visitors, while the MC for the evening will be the infamous Ringmaster Rich. Further musical accompaniment will come throughout the night from percussionist, drumming tutor and Drum Jam founder Kumi Masunaga on djembe, while DJ Jimbrowski will be on the decks.
6:30 p.m. - art open for spinning! Jimbrowski on the decks accompanied by Hong Kong's drum lady Kumi Masunaga
8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. - Jimbrowski continues with intermittent collaborative creative performances inspired by art pieces by Tamara Norris
10:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. - celebrate good times!"
