Sewage Pumping station being built just off Power Station Beach, on the other side of the Cable Road, pumping the sewage from all of Hung Shing Yeh over to the almost completed Sewage Treatment plant in YSW, just behind the Helipad.

So that's what all the construction materials piled up on Power Station Beach for so long were for, inconveniencing beach goers for a surprisingly long time, even during the Lamma Dragons Invitational races 11 days ago.

The size and extent of the Sewage Pumping station took everyone by surprise as the last designs we saw were quite pretty, unobtrusive and mostly underground. They seem to have been dumped without consultation or notification?

It's all part of the 2nd phase of the 2nd phase of the North Lamma sewerage project, 9 km more pipes all over North Lamma, reaching close to almost every house (except Pak Kok), taking a minimum (probably much longer) of another 5 years.

This area just opposite Power Station beach is exactly the same where Lamma's longest sitting out area has been pending for a few years, 60 metres long, along Cable Road. It's awaiting the completion of archaeological examinations ("nothing found") before that construction will start, probably sometime this year.
A massive Sewage Pumping Station with its own massive Sitting-Out Area, nice....

Here's a photo of how the Sewage Pumping Station will look like when completed. Photo of a Kowloon Bay pumping station by Tom. This is the same standard pumping station design used all over HK. There'll be several more built on North and South Lamma (for example between O Tsai and Po Wah Yuen, see maps higher up in this forum topic).

Yes, there will be most likely a huge fence keeping us noisy local and tourists far away from this critical and vulnerable piece of sewage infrastructure; similar to the secretive, fenced-off, well-guarded, prison-like Sewage Treatment Plant behind the Helipad. Despite my best efforts I've never succeeded so far to have an official look inside and there will not be any official completion/opening ceremony.

Most if us welcome this huge sewage project but would be grateful if they'd just get on with it and finally complete it after several years of delays. It'll take at least another 5+ years; plus many more years to get at least a significant percentage of local houses connected to the public sewage pipes, paid for by all flat-owners.

Power Station beach till a few days ago, steel frames and walls;
plus the "works office" (?) of the Sewage Pumping Station. It looked quite idyllic and some people might have rented it if would be available as housing.

Dear Lamma-Gung,

Thank you very much for your email enquiry regarding the Lamma Village Sewerage Phase 2 project. Please be advised that the Drainage Services Department Contract No. DC/2013/04 “Outlying Islands sewerage, stage 2 – Lamma village sewerage phase 2, package 1” have commenced on 20 December 2013. The Contractor is Sequence Construction Company Limited. They just completed the site office at Tai Wan To and they are now preparing the preliminary works including the initial topographical survey and purchasing of materials for this contract, etc.

Regarding the construction materials on the beach and the new building close to Tai Wan To beach as mentioned in your email and website, please be advised that the new building is the site office for our Resident Site Staff (RSS) and the construction materials are for the construction of this site office. The concerned construction materials were removed from the beach by 18 March 2014 and the beach is now clear of any construction materials. We are pleased to enclose some record photos which were taken on 18 March 2014 showing the condition of the beach for your reference. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to the dragonboat invitation races and the beach users due to the construction materials.

Further, we would like to advise that the site office renovation is anticipated to be completed by June 2014. This site office is on temporary basis and will be removed upon completion of the sewerage works. The electric supply for this site office will be provided by Hong Kong Electric Co. Ltd. and we assure that diesel generators will not be used for this site office. Regarding the height of this site office, please be advised that it meets the height restrictions laid down by DLO.

Since the location of site office falls within Tai Wan Site of Archaeological Interest, no ground excavation is permitted with a view to preserve the archaeological resource. In this regard, the construction of the site office have not involved any excavation works and archaeological digs is thus not required. Moreover, close liaison and regular reporting to the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) of Leisure and Cultural Services Department have been carried out during the course of construction of the site office to ensure that the works would not cause any adverse archaeological impact.

In the meantime, we appreciate your continuous support and valuable advices for this sewerage project. In the near future, our RSS will be full time on site at Lamma Island and they will closely monitor the sewerage construction works. Should you require any further information, please feel free to contact our Resident Engineer, Mr. Adrian Ng at 6620 6613 (mobile) or adrian.ng@olss2.com.hk (e-mail), or our Project Engineer, Mr. Glen Shum at 3922 9261 or glen.shum@aecom.com

Thank you for your kind attention.

Regards

Jeremy Yuen
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, AECOM

Dear LG,

Do you have any news on how the Stage 2 is going? After Stage 1 was completed, things have gone worryingly quiet! I'm particularly interested in the Tei Peng works.

Many thanks
GM

Works in full progress, as far as I know.

Up to the top of Tai Peng, basically connecting close to almost all houses in North Lamma, except Pak Kok. This will be several times as big and as much work as Phase I, taking several years to complete, plus many more years to convince at least a minority of flat and house owners to organise and pay for connecting to the completed pipes. See the experiences of the other major Outlying Islands which got thesame works and problems in the last few decades.

In the meantime, the completed sewage works near the helipad will be waiting to be used more than just a little bit of its full capacity of handling sewage treatment for all households and businesses of North Lamma now and for all the extremely overly optimistic population growth forecasts of the Govt.

They completed the Yung Shue Long valley section but left behind an unsightly mess. The red and white plastic barriers were used to divert traffic during excavation, why are they still there?

some good news. The resident engineer Mr. Ng promised action to remove the plastic barriers by the end of next week.
