I've posted on this before. It's getting worse too, some flights now taking off at 2:30 AM... Continual airplane noise from 11:30 to 2:30 AM.

Personally I have always liked living under air-routes so I dont see why anyone complains about aircraft noise.

However, the problem with Hong Kong and late night flights noise is that most European and Oz bound-flights leave HKG after 11pm to arrive in Europe/Southern Africa/Oz in daylight hours and within stricter operational hours.

Lamma gets a great fly past each night between 11:30pm and 2am as a virtual airbridge heads for London / europe. The noise problem is due to most European flights and late night cargo flights being operated almost exclusively by four engined 747s. A fully loaded one of these makes a fantastic noise by time it reaches Lamma as it is cleared to climb. Unfortunately these 40 year old designed 'queen of the sky' are being rapidly phased out and replaced with twin engine sardine cans called 777s. These use about half the fuel and you can hardly hear one as is passes overhead. Boring.

So, stop whinging or get on one!!

The noise of air planes is governed under different regulation than other noise emissions and as Hong Kong has open night flights, there is unfortunately nothing which can be done about it.
