Got a reply from another environmentally very active individual, re: the nice idea of a Lamma Country Park:
"It was never more than a suggestion from green groups, AFAIK. "Taken under consideration" etc, in other words, a pipe dream.
Under Tung we can expect that there will be no new country parks, and quite possibly they will be gradually eroded and developed.
There was a plan for a large housing estate to be built on the quarry site. That may come back when the economy improves.
The country parks expanded under British governors, like Wilson, who enjoyed tramping in the countryside. Tung once said he would take a helicopter to see what these parks looked like (presumably from the air), he had apparently never visited one. No sympathy for green there."
