Post subject:  Lamma Community Planning Workshop - Primary School, TODAY!

Submitted by architectural students of HKU:

"VERY IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

Lamma residents might be approached for their views on development, environment, community, etc of Lamma Island. Do not fear, this is not the usual consultation we are used to, but lovely students from the University of Hong Kong who are doing an holistic planning project looking at the whole of Lamma. Please take the opportunity to help them to understand our community and enhance their learning experience. Poster attached."

Please kindly spend ~5 minutes to fill in the questionnaire. All information collected will solely be used for our research. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Thank you!"

I was collared by one of the students this week in YSW to complete the form. It was a bit difficult to decipher but she talked me through it. She was v. knowledgeable and I think it will be a worthwhile meeting.

I don't like the basic premise that there should be development on Lamma, and that the only discussion is about how that development should proceed. Personally I favour conservation and preservation.

Also did the questionnaire, the only thing was to watch those on the scale of 1 to 10 questions, what does 1 mean and what does 10 mean. Glad to have a forum on this issue.

Best of luck to them, but I'm totally burnt out on the subject.
No matter what suggestions or comments or objections you make, the Islands District Office and the District Council don't give a shit.
They just do what the DAB and the real estate moguls (as if there is any difference) want.
Nothing else matters.

You try to talk to them about "sustainable development" and they will sit and smile at you, but never refer to anything you said when they make their report. or worse, they just say their plan is "sustainable" with no regard for what it actually means.

People who live here aren't "stakeholders". Any input you give is ignored, except that they then say they have "consulted the community", that they have "broad consensus" for whatever slab of concrete or reclamation they are going to pour next.
