Anyone have a photo of this?

I just looked for it at the pier and couldn't see anything.

Also can't find anything on the Civic Party website http://www.civicparty.hk/

The Civic Party has put up another banner there, "Discussion on Lamma Planning". It's opposite the white cottage, as you start walking on the catwalk.

Alan, have you seen the banner?
It's not very prominent because bikes are parked in front of it.
Dr. Kwok will be leading the discussion on planning

Meeting has been moved to outside HSBC after 8pm.
Invitation submitted by Living Lamma:

Dr. KK Kwok, a Legco member with the Civic Party would like to hear from people who have views on planning issues for Lamma Island. You can write to him at kkk@kkkwok.hk, call his Outlying Island Hotline on 2677 6877 or meet him this Thursday evening, 20th June, at 8 pm near the HSBC Bank on Lamma Main Street.

Over the last 4 years, we have heard people expressing concerns about:

- Dumping in the Yung Shue Wan Valley
- The designs for the bike park (the Chief Executive has approved this and District Office refuse to share what they told him with the public - it's confidential!)
- The plans for the Baroque
- The plans for the Phase II reclamation
- The state of the Phase I reclamation 20 years on
- The DSD nullah
- The damage to natural streams
- The sewage treatment works
- The monster clock
- Ugly, unnecessary railings and concrete
- Dangerous paths that need railings yet have none
- Dog poop and poisoning
- Lack of facility to store boating equipment at Power Station beach
- Lack of an on call doctor
- Lack of proper tree care
- Poor waste facilities
- Graffiti
- Littering
- Plans for the quarry
- Lack of meeting space or visitor's centre
- Lack of heritage protection
- Lack of protection for protected species
- Poor design of public minor works
- No place for people to post notices
- The sorry state of the football pitch and playground
- Failings within the consultation process

You may have your own pet peeve or may share concerns with one of these areas. In any case, please help by sharing your thoughts with Dr. Kwok.

Living Lamma has lobbied for improvements as much as a small group of volunteers can. We have had success in some areas, but we have no power in the face of antiquated legislation and entrenched bureaucracy. As a Legco member, Dr. Kwok has a much better chance of making a difference and he has access to far greater resources.

While his primary focus is the impact of greatly increased population for Lamma should the plans for the quarry go ahead (and if you are not aware, government is currently busy narrowing its 3 options for housing down to one - while not giving the opportunity for any other options to be considered), his team are interested in all other planning issues. I have a draft of their flyer in front of me, which says: "Let's Plan Lamma Island Together!"

Please show him that Lamma residents and visitors care about this issue by making your views heard. Please pass this on to your spouse, friends and anyone you know who might be willing to spend a few minutes to write their concerns to Dr. Kwok. The more letters the better. Give him a reason to devote his resources to improving Lamma.

Many thanks

LIVING LAMMA DOES NOT SUPPORT ANY PARTICULAR POLITICAL GROUP. WE WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS IDEAS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT AND BETTER DESIGN OF PUBLIC PROJECTS WITH ANY INTERESTED PARTIES. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE GREATER TRANSPARENCY PARTICULARLY IN LIGHT OF THE DEVELOPMENTAL PRESSURE THAT LAMMA HAS BEEN UNDER RECENTLY AND THE DIFFICULTY WE HAVE HAD IN MAKING SIMPLE CHANGES THAT WOULD MAKE LAMMA A CLEANER, SAFER, NICER PLACE TO LIVE AND VISIT.

From Siuyu Yeung of the GreenLammaGroup:

Translated by Bing:

Last night that I am to Yung Shue Wan from the Civic Party Member Guo presided over a discussion of future development of Lamma Island (mainly around the quarry development) Forum.

For record of finishing a little summary.

Forums, travel issues of the mismatch of resources was raised on the grounds that natural environment near the quarry itself is very beautiful, who made a large number of housing programme had wasted a can be the proper travel programme. In addition, Mr LAU who lived on the island for 30 years, he said, is everyone behind Yung Shue Wan Beach, digging clams, here used to be able to swim today even if you stood long to the seaside or, which is the development of the pollution.

He carefully thought development, while we lose something very precious thing, these are irreparable.

In addition, one party supported the development of the indigenous residents, more concerned about the medical problems of Lamma Island, such as the provision of doctors on duty at night.

Dr Kwok collect views at the same time, it is proposed that everyone make more observations to the Government. Planning Department:

Many Lammaites, including 30+-year residents, including indigenous residents, spoke up. Their very interesting and heart-felt, hand-written comments at the meeting, see below.

Verbal comments were even more outspoken. The most memorable one for me was something like, "This place is turning into a concrete shithole!"
Quite a bit of truth in that...

Most of the meeting was focused on the Govt.'s housing plans in the ex-Lamma Quarry.

I wonder if and when we'll ever see LegCo member KK Kwok on Lamma again...
