From Blog of Baroque:

"People nowadays look for special travel destinations where one can experience the unique culture, tranquility and breathtaking landscapes. It is easy to find such characteristics in European islands, such as Corsica in Southern France and Sardinia in Italy.
In fact, Hong Kong, as a world-renowned Asian cosmopolitan city, has similar outlying islands that also carry distinctive local characteristics which can produce a brand new travel experience...

... Lamma Island, in fact, has the potential to become a leisure resort just as Corsica and Sardinia. More will be explored in our next blog. Stay tuned!"

what drugs are they on? Lamma would look like Sardinia or Corsica only if you were tripping on LSD.

"... unique culture, tranquility and breathtaking landscapes ..."

"... outlying islands that also carry distinctive local characteristics ..."

That's Lamma alright.

You can find small — and disappearing — pockets of all of those here.

The one obvious difference between the two worlds seems to be the behaviour of Lamma's top predators (i.e local land-owners and their concretin building magnate pals). Ours seem unable to resist any opportunity to demolish every last remaining traditional structure while over there in the mediterranean villages chose to retain their traditional character and everyone's better off for it.

Until yesterday Yung Shue Wan's "town square" featured a totally healthy large leafy tree. Just like the previous one they felled by the entrance gate (next to the old Emily's Ice-cream corner), people (or birds to that matter) didn't really miss it until it was gone.

Now tree-less and highlighting the finest virtues of an open expanse of grey concrete, our lovely "town square" is finally a tourism promoter's dream... oh wait I got carried away...

The only businesses that matters over here are the real estate and by extension the concrete pouring businesses.

Still, there must be some kind of a sick niche market for tourists looking for a character-less, fully-concreted commuter suburb devoid of indigenous designs or ambience.

The Baroque is just like the sea ranch on Lantau! Plus the fact it is surrounded by death since its completion!
