There's a notice up about a proposed path, described as "Tai Peng to Lamma Winds".
But you can see from the below map that it it isn't that at all.
I had to extend the map way out to even show the turbine, which is 500 metres or so further east, and Tai Peng a similar distance west.
This path would be marginally shorter than the existing concrete paths, but it goes steeply up and down a hill so it would probably take longer.

It's clearly designed for nothing else except to give access to the gravesites on the hill above the fire station.

No doubt to make it easier to construct more huge roller skating rinks, paths and other concrete status symbols in the mess of uncontrolled and illegal
construction the government fears to take notice of, let alone any action.

If the government wants to spend our taxes to assist in the destruction of the countryside, they should just come out and say so.

The date of the notice is 21 Feb and objections must be made by 21 March.

The only contact is Mr Mak, 2852-4621 at Dist Lands Office, Islands

Thanks, Alan. you are right. This concrete path they are planning to construct despite the name DOES NOT run from Tai Ping to the Lamma Winds. In fact, it is a path connecting one bit of snake path to the back entrance to the grave site - presumably to facilitate the VVs as they shift sand and cement to ever increasing number of ancestral graves. It will not assist anyone getting to the Lamma winds as there are two perfectly good paths for that already. It is retrospective legalization of the illegal path building that has already been carried out by the VVs/gravebuilders dumping spare concrete over the Countryside Conservation zone. It is unnecessary.
Here are the details:

Please drop him a brief line and object to this, if you feel, as I do, that building superfluous paths to be used twice year for grave sweepers with tax-payers money is rather a senseless waste of public money. Thanks. Rant over.

I'm trying to think where there is a path I would like to have. Maybe if I have a VV throw a couple loads of cement down then next year I could have my own publicaly funded path.

But there is not a single place I need to go that isn't already concrete :(

Here's the notice - deadline for comments March 21, call Mr. MOK for email address - and a few photos walking this path through the forest this morning while going up to Lamma Winds:

The notice says "footpath". I just wonder if the design is to keep the existing stairway or change it into a road for VVs?

It's a footpath now, partially concreted already towards the end, with OK concrete stairs (without railings) at the beginning. I'd guess they want full access for VVs to the many old and recent graves along the "footpath".
Has somebody asked Lands Dept.?

Many more graves than the single one mentioned in the notice might be affected by the works as the graves are so close together, almost touching each other now in the first section of the path, leaving just inches to walk in-between them sometimes. But the planned path will probably be something similar to the wide "footpath" it connects to, from the Kindergarten up to Tai Ling.

This is a very rarely used, but lovely footpath, I've only ever met one dogwalker while walking it myself occasionally for a really steep and challenging cross-country ascent to Lamma Winds. I don't strongly care about whether they concrete it or not. Pick your battles and reserve your energy for the numerous high-profile development projects coming up?

For example, if they want to concrete the Snake Trail from Lamma Winds over to the top of the new Lo Tik Wan concrete "Stairway to Nowhere" and on to the Youth Hostel, then there'd be major opposition, I'd reckon. But I wouldn't be surprised to find such notices on the Snake Trail in the next few years, or sooner. Family Trail #2, anyone?

I wouldn't camp out and chain myself to a tree to stop it.
But I will object on the basis that its purpose is nothing like the stated one.
I'm sick of them lying about the purpose of projects.
Clearly this is for vehicular access to aid in construction of graves.
Not to give foot access to Lamma Winds.

If they want to help these vandals pour concrete on the hillside, the they should say so and not pretend otherwise.

Just laying back and letting them get away with this crap simply encourages them to destroy this hillside, and the next, and the next, without end.
When they say "compromise" they mean "stand aside and let us do whatever we want".
The only response we can make is to throw sand in the gears as much as possible, to slow the destruction until demographic changes put the troglodytes out of office.
