In case anyone is interested, I just sent this to lcsdenq@1823.gov.hk

I will advise the response and case number if anyone else wants to join in you can reference it.

Dear sirs,

Last night, about 7 pm, I was showering at Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Lamma Island after swimming and found two soiled baby nappies in the showers.

In fact, in the last month, this has happened to me at least 5 times.
If you ask the local cleaning staff, I'm sure they find them more often than that.

Obviously this is disgusting and a health risk.

Since the local staff are not present at the showers most of the day, discarded nappies remain for hours or until the next day.
And please do not tell me you will respond by putting up notices telling people not to do this, as that will be completely futile. A few years ago complaints about dogs being washed in the showers resulted in more and more large signs and even banners, all ignored since there was no enforcement. People still shower their dogs.

While those who do this are undoubtedly pigs, it does point out that there is a need for proper baby changing facilities at the beach.
The beach facilities are not used only by those who come to swim there, but are the only facilities between Sok Kwu Wan and Yung Shue Wan, so the many tourists, obviously some with infants, who walk this route use them.

The changing rooms adjacent to the showers are very large and installing a simple baby changing area in it would be a minimal project. A flat table with a washing area and a sanitary disposal bin is all that's needed. Once that is in place, notices outside could advise parents and even the most selfish might find them more convenient than the showers.

Sincerely

Alan Sargent
Lamma Island

It's nice to see a solution to a problem offered with the complaint! Here's hoping it brings a positive response. :D

Changing room is a good idea but I do not think it is necessary to properly dispose the nappies. The showers are full of all kind of rubbish in the mornings while the rubbish bin is two meters away.

Wow, an actual positive RESULT from a public complaint! Amazing!

This warrants a big, complimenting Lamma-zine story as soon as they actually install the baby changing station!

As you're a regular visitor in this area, please take a picture of the station or alert me when it's ready for the public!
