Photographer Toto found an already existing big, nice CPA, not overcrowded at all, over on Power Station Road. Note the lack of notice.

OK, I'll take the bait.

Since moving to Lamma last year, I was not aware of the politics surrounding bike parking on the pier. There didn't seem to be any practical problem with parking bikes along the railings, as is done on most outlying islands of Hong Kong, and sporadically throughout the city.

I often stay at my girlfriends house for one or two nights in Central. It always suited me to ride down to the pier and park up, just as I would if I were only going into town for business meetings for an afternoon. It would never occur to me that anyone had a problem that my bike is parked there for a few hours, or a few days.

Had I spent Monday and Tuesday night in the city, my HKD4,000 bike would have been crushed. It certainly doesn't seem fair to me, and I resent being labelled an idiot because I might have done so.

The main issue here as I see it is the short notice period. It penalises anyone who might leave their bike for more than two days. The 'rules' are unfair and unclear.

Never mind the contradiction in the Lands Dept's reasoning; since they claimed that this clearance was due to complaints made by emergency services, whilst maintaining that this is routine protocol to remove disused items. I agree with Foreign Body, the article is rubbish.

It's obvious that Lamma should have adequate designated cycle-parking, and in the absence of it parking along the railings should be tolerated and accommodated - not vilified. Insofar that that is true, random punters such as Deviant don't get to set the rules. You don't get to tell weekenders that their bikes are not welcome. You don't get to set time limits that suit your lifestyle.

And suggesting that all the bikes should park in the village. That hardly sounds like a good solution to me. hundreds of bikes parked in the main thoroughfare?

Anyway, we're all arguing the same thing. We'd like a bike-park that mitigates these frictions. We'd like clear and reasonable policy from the powers-that-be. Let's leave it at that?

It would be nice if there was more space on the Pier, particularly when 300 tourists get off and walk very slowly down the pier

I don't use a bike, but I would like to thank Living Lamma for helping save as many bikes as they can.

Clearing away old bikes is acceptable. This clearing is not. Bike owners should be given a chance to re-claim their bikes.

The YSW ferry pier bike crackdown continues!

This email and photos just in less than an hour ago, more notices stuck on all bikes at the YSW ferry pier this morning and photos taken of ALL bikes and trolleys and anything there.

I'll try to get one of the notices for the details and the deadline right now....

David writes: They are tagging bikes to be removed after 28th. They said no longer allowing bike parking on the pier.
I asked them "where can we park the bikes". The Bald guy said "that is your problem". This is political BS to further develop the unnecessary bike coral. Please post these pics online and help fight this.

P.S. WRONG ALARM! Photos were from Monday but got stuck in some mailbox on the way or some spam filter, till David resent them this morning. Your bikes are safe ... for now!

Anyone know how long bike owners have to move them - After today's notices went on?

I wonder if this will provoke a formal "oppose the wasteful Bike Park" campaign. Might be a good idea, especially if someone came up with a formal alternative plan for angle parking type spaces on the pier itself. I'm sure the media would be interested in this - wasteful government spending (wht they call earmarks in US), jobs for the boys, heavy handed bureaucracy, illegal appropriation of private property, people's power bubbling up from below.
