Dogs and robberies . . .

I've found dogs to be the worse problem on Lamma.

FYI, I lived in Tin Hau, HK Island when I first arrived and across the street on an open roof was one of those little barkers (the little ones seem to be the worst).

I made two complaints via the HK Police website (find: noise complaints, but supposedly noise has to continue after 11pm for the Police to do anything).

Anyhow, second or third complaint the Police showed up. I told them where the problem was and they went and talked to the owner. I could also see (as my view was above their roof) that they were basically abusing the dog. When it barked, they would go out there and beat it with a stick.

That DID help, a lot (the Police showing up) but what is even more beautiful is because of the noise complaint the sloppy dog owners were also bagged for having an illegal addition to their house (where the dog was kept) and forced to remove it!

I hope that dog's going to be ok.

It could be misconstrued, but I think he meant that the abuse was part of the problem.

I deeply apologize if I suggested some kind of insensitiveness unjustly. However, looking through all the stories on the Forum related to barking dogs, I think the complaining people should realize that eventually the poor creatures would suffer: sent to the shelter, put down, or trained brutally to stop them barking. Only, long lasting changes in law, restrictions, taxes and other measures may help to reduce the number of dogs kept in wrong condition. Just an immediate action by police or other way would likely result in some really unwanted things. So, if someone is moving to Lamma, I am afraid, has to accept the dogs as much as the rough pavements, mosquitoes and centipedes.
