Deli is empty

My only beef with the Deli is the way that the bit round the back somehow manages to have about 5 flies hovering around each table, despite the fact that Lung Kong right next to it has none. What's with that?

Here was me thinking a restaurant's success depended on quality of food, service and value for money. Shows how little I know about the trade.

I reckon Marc Anthony has it closer - natural wastage coupled with the herd mentality/movement. Add to the fact that Prafull being shafted by many friends who didn't pay their tabs, called a halt to credit - and no offense to those of us who ran tabs and did bother our ass to pay - and the fact that amazingly, when he tried to expand to HK, many locals took offense - that he didn't care for his customers on Lamma any more and hence took their offended asses elsewhere! Hard to come back from that kind of slight..... even after he had put up with their worthless asses for many a long year..................... would kinda make you not REALLY care that much any more, ya reckon?

It's not true that the Deli is empty. On Saturday nights it's full of Filipino teenagers looking for a fight.

I think Sputnik might be right. Do you really want to be on candid camera while having dinner with your friends?

We've also stopped visiting the Deli completely - even though I've always liked Prafull and their food - after they suddenly stopped their small advertising banner a few months ago, even after all the free & frequent Lamma-zine stories about the Deli and the free website I built and maintained for them (website unlinked now on Prafull's request.) Well, there are enough other good and OK restaurants in YSW for us to eat out almost every day.

There are several reasons for the Deli's dramatic drop in favour in the last several months, according to the former regulars many of whom moved over to Diesel's, some of them maybe following Diesel's co-owner Joyce after she made the move from the Deli herself? Diesel's is really booming these days and seems THE place to be seen in?

I reckon this is at least partly down to natural wastage. Many of the old Deli crew have moved on (who knows where), finally ran out of visa renewals or had sprogs.

There's also the random patronage factor - for no good reason, once every few years the pack settles on another bar, only to return again xx years/months in the future in response to the same mysterious, unfathomable urges.
