LAMMA DRAGONS 2003
Welcome to the 2003 Season! To get us going gently, and get the new members up
to speed, we start training in February, details to follow:
Go to: Training, Membership Fees, Competitive/Social, Teams, Races, Sponsorships, Fundraising,
Committee,
Training takes place on both Saturdays and Sundays and takes 2 – 2 1/2 hours
each session. We appreciate people have
jobs and families! Please attend as many sessions as you can! It only takes
longer if you stop for drinks afterwards.
We start training on
Saturday 22nd Feb 4.30 pm
– 6:30pm
Sunday
23rd Feb
3.00 pm – 5.00 pm
·
Please
meet outside the Library, ON TIME PLEASE, for warm up and briefing (30 mins).
·
We will
have a gentle introduction to new season.
·
It is
important for everyone, especially all
new paddlers, to attend the first sessions!!
We meet
at the library.
Saturday
4.30 pm – 6:30pm
Sunday
3.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Sessions last approx 2
hours
·
Please
be on time for warm up and briefing on training /races etc (30 mins).
·
If you
CANNOT
ATTEND A SESSION or will be
LATE,
please call either Katie or Claire
in advance. We pay for the boat hire
unless we cancel in ADVANCE so please make excuses as early as possible.
·
Bring
clothes that can (and will) get wet in the boat, and dry clothes, towel,
shampoo, talc, etc. for after training. It is cold standing around in wet
clothes early in the year.
·
Training will start on time, latecomers will be picked up, so can still paddle
(so no excuses!!)
·
IMPORTANT!!
If not enough people turn up for the session then it will be
CANCELLED.
This denies those who turned up a chance to train – and we pay for it too.
Membership will be the same as last season, $750 PER PADDLER
for the
season, payable after the first weekend in the water (latest Saturday 1st
March) and are non-refundable.
1st
timers – only – are given their first session free as a try-out. After that
they must pay full membership if they wish to continue – and we hope you do.
Fees cover training – almost. Other expenses (entrance fees, dinner, kit
etc) are covered by fundraisers and sponsorship. Please enthusiastically
support all fund raisers. There may be small additional costs, such as buses to
races, etc.
Please note: fees do not cover travel to Penang!!
Please
indicate to Claire or Katie the level you wish to paddle at. Competitive level
needs a lot of commitment, both to
attending training sessions and races or you may face disappointment (pls don’t
let that put you off, it’s great fun, and there’s nothing like coming home with
a cup and a medal!). However, if you specify that you can train both Saturday
and Sunday it will be assumed that you will!!

TEAMS
Please
note that Selection will be based on a number of aspects altogether:
·
Attendance:
It is important to note that attendance to all or most training sessions alone does not automatically guarantee a place in a race although we will always try to give everyone some race experience – whether it be in heats or finals.
·
Attitude and team spirit :
There is no ‘me’ in a team!!
·
Strength and fitness levels:
This is really important, as dragon boating is about good stamina, with an explosive finish (remind you of anything?!). To help with this, please either do mid week circuit training, or join a gym. The Lamma gym is giving discounts to Lamma Dragons members, and is getting paddling machines!!!!
